Livelihoods for Resilience Activity (GRAD2) is a five-year project funded by USAID to contribute to the livelihoods component of the Ethiopian government’s Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP-4).
The goal of the Livelihoods for Resilience Activity is to reduce food insecurity and increasing resilience for households in highland areas of three regions (SNNP, Amhara, and Tigray) in rural Ethiopia.
In particular, the purpose of the Livelihoods for Resilience Activity is to enable up to 97,900 chronically food insecure households to graduate from the PSNP with resilience.
In order to achieve this goal, the project promotes diversified livelihoods options for households and supports inclusive market systems that are necessary for improving productivity and adding value.
The project makes available an Innovation Fund to finance ideas that contribute for implementing value chain development strategies.
A large portion of that fund goes to support private sector initiatives, including input supply, innovative extension services, processing/packaging, and market systems.
Concept notes for these ideas - the first step in the process – have been slow to take shape and lack sufficient clarity.
