Position Scope

The Director of Security is to oversee and manage the successful running of the Security Department for Kasada’s portfolio of assets in the Sub-Saharan African region and to ensure all aspects of safety and quality measures are maintained to the highest standards.

This role is crucial in supporting the relevant Hotels and other related entities in providing safe and secure hotel environments by maintaining sound security methods and procedures in line with corporate policies and brand guidelines, and the hotel’s business plan.

Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

Provide a safe and secure hotel for All Stakeholders

  • Follow all brand and local policies, procedures and service standards.

  • Develops and maintains a working relationship with the local fire, police, and government agencies and participates in relevant local forums for hotel and tourism safety and security throughout the various countries/cities in which our hotels and other entities are located.

  • Ensures and documents that safety and security training is carried out for all employees and is aware of the Accor related policies available for safety training, fire drills and crisis management training.

  • Supports on site Security Teams and/or outsourced service providers on a regular basis and ensures all activities are documented and circulated in accordance with corporate safety and security policies and procedures.

  • Processes all written reports involving security related incidents and guest or employee accidents and ensures these are logged in the 3T monitor system by the General Managers of the various properties.

  • Improves safety and security at the hotel by communicating identifying hazards with onsite Security or outsourced labour and taking appropriate corrective action through various monitoring and controls.

  • Ensure complaints, investigations, and other Security, Health and/or Safety matters are thoroughly reported on together with employee injuries, thefts, assaults, lost property, car accidents, loud parties, vandalism, and other safety and security related issues.

  • Ensures that written Risk Management manuals and procedures are in place in the hotel and available for all Hotels and employees as necessary.

  • Ensures that routines and procedures are in place to keep all risk areas such as hotel entrances and exits secure as per Accor policy.

  • Ensures effective hotel key management procedures are maintained with the on-site security department and/or outsourced labour

  • Ensures that routines and procedures are in place by on-site security department and/or outsourced labour for areas of the Hotel containing any Food and Beverage Outlets

  • Completes daily security log, including pertinent information from each property for internal distribution and brand reporting.

  • Reviews worker’s compensation claims that occur on duty by signing off on investigating reports provided by each Hotel property.

  • Ensures that all potential and real hazards are communicated and taken care of through on-site inspections.

  • Applies hotel regulations, adhering to existing laws and regulations for safety, security and prevention.

  • Rolls out any required policies, procedures and training with the relevant stakeholders.

    Health & safety

  • To ensure a safe and healthy environment for all stakeholders.

  • Responsible Business: show involvement and be interested in environmental and/or social issues by participating in Responsible Business hotel e.g. Accor Hotels
    Planet 21 sustainability program, ALLSAFE (Bureau Veritas) to name a few.

  • Attends meetings and training required by brand and local regulations of the various hotels in the region.

  • Chair all regional Health, Safety and Security committee meetings.

  • Participate in any internal audits related to Health, Safety and Security.

  • Develop related standards to reflect Accor’s commitment to Health and Safety

    Financial & Administration goals

  • Ensures that incident reports are consolidated for the region on a monthly basis.

  • Manage corporate reporting system as it applies to Health & Safety metrics.

  • Prepares Health, Safety and Security business plan and budget for the various properties within the region.

  • Analyses deviation to budget, and takes action when required

    Employee Relations

  • Involved in assessing training needs and develops hotel training plans including succession plans for Security team members for the regions properties.

  • Initiates, executes and/or monitors training of his/her colleagues for security matters.

  • Conducts annual appraisals for his security team members and produces a development and training plan for the staff.

  • Identifies employees with potential for promotion and/or transfer and makes appropriate development plans for him or her together with the Talent and Culture Department

    Miscellaneous

  • Attends meetings and training required by brand and/or owners.

  • Perform tasks of a reasonable nature as and when requested by Management.

  • Continuously seeks to endeavour and improve own knowledge of the job function:

    Knows the following procedures by heart:

  • Hotel fire, bomb and emergency procedures

  • Hotel health and safety policies and procedures
    Knows:

  • Hotel facilities and nearby sights of interest and importance (i.e. hospitals, stations, tourist sights)

  • Hotel standards of operation and departmental procedures

  • Current licensing relating to hotel

  • Accepted methods of payment by the hotel

  • Short and long term hotel as well as corporate marketing and promotional programs

  • Corporate clients and clients generating high business volume

  • Union agreements

    Qualifications

  • Must have a strong technical background. This role manages engineering teams and works with engineering counterparts and collaborators.

  • You have experience aligning risk with strategy. You will work with the CISO to assess business unit risk appetites and prioritize the critical security risks and business enablements.

  • You are a proven leader who will drive security awareness and security culture throughout Etsy and our subsidiaries. You will also act as a mentor for your team, and build a culture of growth and inclusion.

  • You excel at all forms of communication. You will communicate technical issues to non-technical team members, and influence technical and legal partners across the globe.
