    Summary of position:

    Under the general direction of the Property and Material Manager, the Senior Maintenance Technician troubleshoots, installs, modifies or replaces minor electrical equipment and systems and ensures all installations follow appropriate standards regarding electrical work.

    The Senior Maintenance Technician also oversees/actions the installation, preventative maintenance and repairs of the Mission’s generators. The incumbent will be required to supervise a team of maintenance technicians and supervise and inspect work performed by contractors to ensure compliance with manufacturer’s specifications.

    The incumbent plans and prepares preventive maintenance programs including costs, develops plans for repairs, monitors expenditures, and assists other Maintenance Team members in the completion of various projects.

    Essential qualifications:

    Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

    Education:

  • Diploma(s) from Technical Vocational College in mechanical, electrical or related field (equivalent of 3 years’ full time training) or Degree in a related Engineering field

    Language:

  • Fluency in oral English and fair written English
  • Fluency in oral Amharic and excellent written Amharic

    Experience:

  • At least 5 years of maintenance experience in an expert/senior position
  • At least two years of experience supervising / managing a team.
  • Experience should have been obtained within the past 10 years

    Rated Requirements

  • The Rated Requirements relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies will also be assessed.
  • Methods of assessment may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

    Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of generators;
  • Knowledge of electrical installations, repairs, etc.;
  • Knowledge of general maintenance works;
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations, construction codes and standards;
  • Knowledge of preparing scopes of work and estimates for maintenance and repair projects;
  • Knowledge of procurement by developing and using appropriate statements of work/specifications to solicit quotes; and
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook Mail);

    Asset Qualifications:

  • Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications.
  • Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications in their cover letter and CV.
  • Previous experience working in a diplomatic mission, in a Canadian Government or Public Sector Environment or in an international organization;
  • Basic budgeting skills such as forecasting, monitoring and reporting;
  • Documented good organizational and time management skills to prioritize workloads;
  • Experience in soliciting and analyzing quotations for building renovations, maintenance, etc.’
  • Knowledge of project management/project tracking
  • Knowledge of local and/or Canadian
    health and safety standards; and
  • Fluency in Canada’s other official language (French).

  • Operational Requirements:
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime;
  • Leave may be restricted due to operational requirements.
  • A driving licence is a necessary requirement of the job role
