Job Description

Chaya Humanitarian Organization (CHO) is a non-political, impartial, independent, and non-profit-making organization established on October 26, 2021, and registered by ACSO as a Board led organization bearing certificate No. 5874.

CHO is working to improve the livelihood of the target communities by providing humanitarian services of the highest possible quality in an equitable manner toward achieving sustainable development.

Report to: Accountant

Duration: Six months with possible extension based on the performance and availability of the fund

Position description

The Cashier is responsible for processing and receiving payments and issuing receipts to customers. Cashiers also handle additional items necessary, such as coupons, while providing an excellent customer service experience.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Chaya Humanitarian Organization Cashier, amongst others, will have the following main duties and responsibilities.

  • Complying with all company, local, state, and federal accounting and financial regulations.

  • Compiling, analyzing, and reporting financial data.

  • Creating periodic reports, such as balance sheets, financial statements, etc.

  • Maintaining accurate financial records.

  • Handle and safely keep the petty cash fund.

  • Effect authorized payments from the petty cash fund and timely replenished when it reached 75% utilization.

  • Make sure that payments are properly supported by relevant documents.

  • Make sure that the petty cash fund is timely replenished when it reached the minimum level.

  • Collects all accountants due to Chaya Humanitarian Organization against legal receipts.

  • Pays out salary and other payments against supporting documents.

  • Timely pay the income tax and withholding tax deducted from employees and customers /suppliers of the organization.

  • Make sure that telephone, internet, water, electricity &, etc. bills are settled in time.

  • Collect funds from donors and other sources of income and deposits in the bank account of the organization.

  • Make sure that the receipt voucher is
    issued for every income.

  • Preparing payment vouchers for every cheque issued.

  • Make sure that every cheque payment is supported by relevant document(s).

  • Collects donations from sponsors and reports the status of the collection to the concerned department.

  • Handle cheque.

  • Make sure that collected cash is deposited in the bank within 5 days.

  • Perform other job-related duties assigned to him/her by the supervisor.

  • Carries out other activities assigned to him/her by the supervisor.

  • Performing other duties as directed by the Finance & Admin, Program Manager, and Executive Director

    Job Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or related fields

  • At least five years of related work experience

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles

  • Excellent written, oral, and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Flexible and creative self-starter who can work both independently and within a team

  • Experience with payroll systems is a plus

  • Prior experience in a non-profit environment is a plus

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles related to non-profit organizations is a plus

  • Strong analytical, communication, and computer skills.

  • Understanding of mathematics and accounting and financial processes.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English, Afan Oromo and Amharic is a plus
