Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail :-

formulating policies, standards, programs and projects for irrigation development, promoting research development and innovation in irrigation sector; coordinating the planning, designing, construction, operation and maintenance of irrigation systems, liaising with development partners and other relevant stakeholders in irrigation development, supervising monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects, and promoting research and technology transfers in irrigation and land reclamation; Any other duties assigned.

The officer will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of departmental strategic plan; ensuring development and review of annual work plans and budgets; coordinating departmental performance contract; and managing and developing staff

Requirements for Appointment.

Have served in the grade of Principal Superintending Engineer (Irrigation) for at least three (3) years.

Be in possession of a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural and Bio systems Engineering, , Biomechanical and Processing or Soil and Water Environmental Engineering from a recognized institution.

Masters Degree in any of the following disciplines; Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural systems Engineering, Soil and Water engineering Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Management, Water Resources Engineering or irrigation Engineering from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.

Be registered/ registrable by Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK)/Kenya Engineering Technologists Registration Board. (KETRB)

A member of a professional body in good standing.

Have attended a strategic leadership Development course in lasting not

less than six (6) weeks or equivalent Management Training from a recognized institution;

Have certificate in computer applications; and have demonstrated general managerial, administrative and professional competence in work performance and exhibited a thorough understanding of national goals, policies, objectives and ability to relate them to the irrigation and drainage functions

Any other duties as assigned
