About the role

The role involves working in a big data environment for a project with heavy data and stakeholder management needs.

The BI analyst and data programmer responsibilities will therefore span all project phases (locating and assembling data, building datasets for analysis, implementing and interpreting mathematical and statistical procedures that often involve novel, challenging analyses of large datasets, and creating final presentations, reports, and graphics) while working closely with project managers and principal consultants to deliver to all stakeholder expectations including investors, funding partners, auditors, and internal customers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Big Data management and Analysis: work with big data/large data sets, manage and manipulate them through programming using such tools as Ms Excel VBA, R, MYSQL, Python, et al to generate actionable insights for management for decision making.

  • QA/QC: Quality control of primarily collected and secondary sourced data using available tools to ensure accurate reporting of insights.

  • BI reporting; Generate BI reports, dashboards, and data models with the help of the BI tools and MS-Office products available in the organization and present consequent reports to management and other stakeholders.

  • Data warehouse monitoring: closely monitor to ensure the data warehouse is working as expected and assist in troubleshooting to establish the root cause of downtimes and documenting actions to prevent the reoccurrence of the issue.

  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources, data governance activities (e.g., data quality and cleansing strategies) data collection techniques, and develop processes and tools to monitor, analyze and tune model performance and data accuracy.

  • Collaborate with departments that generate and consume homegrown data including after-sales, market research, commercial, carbon projects, and new product development to validate data sources and deliver quality data output that is usable for strategic decision-making.

  • Continuously monitor core reporting systems to maintain expected standards of data integrity for all data-related projects through processing, cleaning, and verifying the integrity of data across multiple databases.

  • Monitor critical analytics and metrics results
    and communicate the same effect promptly to user departments and any other external stakeholders.

  • Develop policies and procedures/SOPs for the collection and analysis of data for the existing and new data processes.

  • Knowledge transfer: Arrange and conduct continuous assessment/Training to internal stakeholders/customers on how to navigate developed BI tools for their analytic, reporting, and visualization needs.

  • Provide forward-thinking recommendations to the business by building an in-depth understanding of the problem domain and available business data assets, especially those about strategic initiatives and value-based programs.

  • Cooperate with the IT department to deploy software and hardware upgrades that make it possible to leverage big data utilization through testing and deployment of the software/hardware.

  • Execute ad-hoc requests on data mining and exploratory statistics tasks on large data sets related to business strategies and make presentations on the findings.

    Skills and Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Applied statistics/ Mathematics/ Actuarial science/ Data science/ Economics & Statistics/ Operations research

  • At least 3 years of experience in a BI or data science environment

  • Proven experience with programming for data analysis using Excel and at least one programming language R, Python, SQL.

  • Experience in Data Querying and Warehousing using tools like MySQL, AWS Redshift, etc.

  • Experience in Data visualization with proficiency in PowerBI, Tableau, or AWS Quick Sight, etc.

  • Possess a knack for effective communication with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience in cross-department functioning, and reporting/presentation

  • Knowledge of AWS Cloud platform desirable
