British High Commission Project Support Officer Jobs in South Africa; The main purpose of the role will be to support the day-to-day administration and promotion of programmes and policy engagement of the Economic Growth team within the British High Commission; and working closely with the various teams to ensure all aspects of our programming are effectively administered including support for visits and events. This will include providing an excellent level of administrative support to the Economic Growth Team, particularly during surge points e.g. key events, campaigns spikes and programming activity pressures.

Roles and responsibilities:

Communications, Visits and Events Support (60%)

  • Supporting the team leader to develop and lead on communications activities (in consultation with local comms team) to promote and raise the profile of the team’s work, involving building relationships, coordinating activities and sharing information across a wide range of diverse stakeholders. This includes -
    Coordinating and reviewing the team inputs to the mission-wide forward look and policy board
    Leading on event organisation including logistics, guestlist management and branding

  • Collaborating with comms team to ensure that the external communication activities for Economic Growth team’s programme activities are appropriately delivered

  • Working with other teams in the High Commission to support the planning and delivery of key events, visits and public diplomacy activities

  • Targeted support for G20 events

  • Maintaining a calendar of team events and communication plans

    Team Engagement Support (20%)

  • Keeping up to date on programming initiatives across the Economic Growth team, attending local and HQ programme related meetings and workshops as needed, and providing necessary communications and logistical inputs.

  • Supporting the team leader in organising team activities such as strategy days, social gatherings, and other team building events

    Team Administration (including Travel and Visits) (15%)

  • Manage team-wide information on travel and entertainment budgets

  • Support Economic Growth team with risk assessments (TRA)
    and transport planning for visits and events


    Learning and Development Support (5%)

  • Identify and map team-wide L&D status and current gaps in training and skills

  • Collate and maintain information pack for newcomers and existing team members to cover L&D opportunities
    available at the British High Commission/FCDO including study grant, mandatory courses and paid training and skills

  • Regularly support Team Leader to review team capabilities and work with the team leader to ensure necessary L&D support is available

    Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Experience working in a team in an office environment

  • 3 years administrative skills

  • Communications skills

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills

  • Strong customer focus, relationship, stakeholder engagement skills

  • Strong IT skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and web-based applications

  • Fluency in English, both written and oral

  • Team player, adaptable, driven by values

  • Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • An interest in economic growth, development, diplomacy or cultural relations

  • Programme/project management skills

  • Experience of working in a similar environment

  • Ability to think creatively and take a proactive role in supporting team objectives

  • Demonstrable experience of supporting a large and/or complex portfolio of projects
