British Council Payroll Officer Jobs in Kenya;Support delivery of accurate and compliant payroll operations across assigned countries.

Prepare, validate, and reconcile payroll input data, assist in payroll runs, manage employee queries, and maintain records in compliance with statutory and internal policies.

Contribute to continuous improvement, risk mitigation, and audit readiness by coordinating with Finance, HR, and external vendors.

Main Accountabilities

Payroll Execution & Validation

  • Validate input data (new hires, exits, salary changes, allowances, deductions, benefits) with HR and Finance

  • Prepare and verify payroll input templates for review and approval

  • Ensure payroll transactions comply with internal controls and statutory regulations

    Records Management & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate payroll records in line with IGRM policies

  • Ensure records are available for audits

  • Support archiving and data‑retention compliance under PDPA and GDPR

    Compliance & Risk

  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations (tax, pension, social security)

  • Follow payroll control checklists for audit readiness

  • Support preparation of compliance reports and reconciliations

    Case Management & Employee Support

  • Manage payroll cases and queries in case management systems (e.g., C4C)

  • Resolve employee concerns with HR, Finance, and MSP

  • Provide empathetic and professional employee support

  • Escalate complex cases to Payroll Consultant or Manager

    Continuous Improvement & Collaboration

  • Contribute to SOP documentation and
    refinement

  • Participate in post‑payroll reviews and improvement initiatives

  • Support automation tools or process simplifications introduced by Payroll & People Data Manager

    Requirements of the Role

  • Written and verbal proficiency in English

  • Experience in payroll administration or data processing in shared‑services or multi‑country environments

  • Knowledge of payroll processes, data validation, and statutory deductions

  • Familiarity with HRIS and payroll systems (SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle, or similar)

  • Ability to manage confidential data responsibly with high accuracy

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills under tight timelines

    Desirable

  • Experience with external vendors or managed service providers

  • Exposure to continuous‑improvement initiatives or process documentation

  • Understanding of statutory payroll compliance in Asia‑Pacific countries
