British Council Commercial Finance Business Partner Jobs in Kenya;Support Cultural Engagement (CE) in delivering a sustainable, financially robust, and high‑performing contracts portfolio by providing commercial insight, management information, and strategic financial advice.
Act as a trusted business partner to ensure contracts are priced appropriately, deliver value for money, and align with CE priorities on surplus, quality, partnerships, and impact.
Lead the ongoing development and governance of CE’s pricing and costing model and commercial tools, embedding good practice in proposal development.
Provide independent commercial challenge and formal recommendations to the Tripartite Approval Board (TAB) on contract opportunities.
Role Accountabilities
Commercial Finance Partnering
Provide commercial and financial insight to advise and challenge stakeholders
Support new business development with robust pricing and sustainable terms
Lead financial appraisal of new opportunities using pricing and costing models
Strategy & Planning
Support strategic planning through commercial modelling and analysis
Assess donor landscapes, contract types, and service models for financial implications
Relationship & Stakeholder Management
Champion CE as a centre of excellence in commercial finance
Build strong relationships with colleagues, funders, partners, and suppliers
Strengthen commercial capability, value for money, and performance
Business Development
Provide commercial support throughout the contract lifecycle
Evaluate proposals and ensure alignment with delivery models and funder requirements
Develop financial narratives, Value for Money approaches, and reporting for tenders
Business Performance
Support transition from contract award to delivery
Provide accurate management information and insights for decision‑making
Embed consistent global approaches to pricing and costing
Leadership & Professional Development
Maintain high professional standards and share expertise
Drive
continuous improvement and build organisational understanding
Deputise for Head of Commercial Finance when required
Risk Management & Compliance
Identify and communicate financial risks with mitigation strategies
Work with finance teams on tax, treasury, and compliance assessments
Ensure projects meet funder, regional, and corporate requirements
Knowledge & Experience
Education – Essential
Degree level education or equivalent experience
Qualified accountant with proven experience in similar roles
Experience – Essential
Minimum 5 years business partnering experience, including 3 years supporting business development teams
Experience in international and multi‑cultural organisations
Commercial finance activity in bid pursuit and tendering environments
Proficiency in financial modelling and analysis
Advanced Excel and cost/pricing tools expertise
Awareness of tax and treasury implications in international contexts
Experience – Desirable
Tendering experience with FCDO, EU, or major international funders
Knowledge of sector best practice in value for money and transparency reporting
Experience in public sector or government‑aligned organisations
Contract management knowledge
Experience with accounting and planning applications
