British Army Training Unit Kenya Skilled Labourer Jobs ; The Skilled Labourer will perform a variety of basic construction tasks requiring specialised techniques, supporting senior trades across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, masonry and carpentry works. The role involves safe use of tools and machinery, adherence to health and safety standards, and maintaining a clean and organised work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform basic construction tasks using specialised techniques.
Support senior trades in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, masonry and carpentry.
Operate drills, jackhammers, power tools and heavy machinery.
Keep work site tidy at all times.
Maintain equipment in clean and safe condition.
Adhere to organisational policies and objectives.
Comply with health and safety requirements, risk assessments and site safety orders.
Inspect, maintain and correctly wear PPE.
Safely store and secure materials and tools, returning unused items to stores.
Secondary Duties
Work indoors and outdoors under varying weather and terrain conditions.
Exposure to hazardous traffic, fumes, gases, chemicals, extreme heat, confined spaces and vibration/noise.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds.
May be required to undertake duties in confined spaces, working at height, petroleum, mechanical systems, Legionella and asbestos.
Respond to emergencies on a 24‑hour basis, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Support tradespersons by driving, loading and transporting materials and personnel.
Promote diversity, fair treatment and respectful communication.

Competences / Qualifications / Experience
Essential
KCSE certificate.
Experience in basic construction techniques and site labour.
Awareness of occupational hazards and safety practices.
Ability to risk assess and mitigate hazards in manual work.
Operate motorised and hand tools safely.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Establish effective working relationships.
Meet schedules and timelines.
Adapt to changing priorities.
Desirable
Valid Kenya driving licence (Class B, C1 & C).
Ability to use tools and equipment under instruction.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices.
Understanding of relevant UK, national and local laws, codes and regulations.
Familiarity with organisational policies and objectives.
