Job Purpose:

The MD is responsible for the overall success of the business. The role will control and oversee all business operations, people and investment to steer the company to the most profitable direction while also implementing its vision, mission and long term goals.

The goal is to ensure the company is constantly moving towards fulfilling its short-term and long-term objectives and does not diverge from its strategic guidelines. Very strong crisis
management skills are essential to “save” the company in times of need.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Role:

Strategy and Commercial Activities

  • Develop and execute the company’s business strategies to attain goals.

  • Provide strategic advice to the board and CEO.

  • Prepare and implement comprehensive business plans to facilitate achievement by planning cost-effective operations and market development activities.

  • Develop and implement a commercial strategy that drives growth and profitability.

  • Establish and ensure operating policies consistent with the Chief Executive Officer's broad policies are developed to meet the company's mission and objectives and to comply with all relevant statutory and other regulations and ensures their execution.

  • Lead and participate in board meetings and shareholder conferences.

  • Guides and directs management in the development of products and services and make necessary changes for best practice, shareholders, and authorities.

    Leadership & Management

  • Regular and systematic performance evaluation of the business and report results with recommendations for improvement to the CEO.

  • Monitor and optimize budgets, financial forecasts, and revenue and KPIs.

  • Lead and identify avenue for new business revenues within the region, adopt and own customer centricity as a key business driver.

  • Effectively disseminating CEO’s expectations down the organization.

  • Building and enhancing the company's public profile at events, speaking engagements, etc. in a professional manner.

    Oversee daily business operations

  • Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of Business Operations to achieve improvement and growth in terms of productivity.

  • Supervise executives providing guidance and motivation to drive performance.

  • Ensure development of best practice to pursue targeted goals and objectives to grow and develop the business.

  • Oversee the company’s financial performance, investments and identify avenues for revenue generation.

  • Adopt and own customer centricity as a key business driver.

  • Prepares and reports on a daily, weekly and monthly basis relating to the overall status of the business to confirm
    whether objectives are being met.

    Compliance

  • Ensures that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with regulations and laws governing business operations as well as continuous update of processes, policies and procedures.

  • Ensure company policies and legal guidelines are communicated all the way from the top down in the company and that they are followed always

  • Research and analyze industry trends, identifying areas of interests and potential risks.

  • Create initiatives to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration throughout the business.

    People and performance management

  • Lead, develop and enhance company culture.

  • Assessing, managing, and resolving problematic developments and situations to maintain a conducive work environment.

  • Ensure performance appraisal, training nd professional development activities

  • In coordination with Head of HR, ensure efficient recognition of performance and rewards are in place to prevent employee issues and resolve problems.

  • Strongly advocate and promote discipline and culture of policy obedience, using innovative and user-friendly methods.

  • Travel as required.

    Carryout other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the management

    Requirements

  • MSc degree in business or tech, MBA preferred.

  • Experience overseeing a business with more than 300 employees and an annual turnover exceeding 6 Billion shillings.

  • At least 10 years’ experience in senior management, minimum 3 years’ experience as an MD role of a MFI or Financial Services.

  • A deep knowledge of the latest developments in the financial industry.

  • Well organized, with excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask.

  • Innovative and entrepreneurial approach.

  • Develop positive relationships with business partners, investors, and senior management.

  • Strong leadership skills. Someone who sets a strong example and leads from the front.

  • Administration of Management Contracts and ensuring that all deliverables are met per the agreement and updated policies are in place.
