BRAC Head of Programmes Jobs in Kenya; The Head of Programmes leads the establishment and early growth of BRAC International’s newest country programme in Kenya. The role is accountable for building operational and programmatic foundations, including set‑up, systems, team building, and field operations. It represents BRAC International with government, donors, partners, and stakeholders, while working closely with the Africa Regional Office and wider BI team to strengthen systems and partnerships.
Growth Pathway: This role is structured as a start‑up equivalent of a Country Director post, designed as a developmental pathway toward full Country Director responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Oversight & Country Office Establishment
Provide strategic and programmatic leadership for BRAC International in Kenya.
Support legal registration, governance, and compliance processes.
Develop country strategy, annual plans, and programme priorities.
Build roadmap for Kenya’s evolution into a full Country Office.
Represent BRAC International with government, donors, and partners.
Financial, Operational & Risk Management
Establish financial and operational systems.
Ensure programmes are delivered within budgets.
Identify and mitigate programmatic, financial, and compliance risks.
Ensure adherence to BI policies, donor requirements, and Kenyan regulations.
Monitor performance and ensure sustainability.
Programme Performance, Monitoring & Learning
Oversee programme portfolio performance and outcomes.
Establish monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems.
Promote evidence‑based decision‑making and continuous improvement.
Document achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
Fundraising, Networking & Partnerships
Build relationships with donors, government, and partners.
Represent BRAC International in external forums.
Organize stakeholder engagements to share learning.
Staff Management & Development
Recruit and lead programme and office teams.
Foster a culture of collaboration,
accountability, and learning.
Support staff capacity‑building and mentorship.
Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability mechanisms.
Safeguarding, Safety & Security
Integrate safeguarding principles into programme design and operations.
Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
Ensure compliance with BI safeguarding and security standards.
Ensure incidents are reported and addressed appropriately.
Qualifications
University degree in Development, Business, Education, Social Sciences, or related field.
Postgraduate qualification an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
Ability to build organisations from the ground up.
Entrepreneurial mindset and adaptability in start‑up contexts.
Knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems.
Strong financial and budgetary control skills.
Excellent management, communication, and negotiation skills.
Experience leading sizable teams and motivating staff.
Strategic and creative thinking across complex portfolios.
Commitment to BRAC International’s vision, mission, and values.
Experience Requirements
7–10 years’ management experience in NGOs or humanitarian/development programmes.
Prior experience setting up or scaling new country programmes/offices strongly preferred.
Good understanding of Kenya’s development sector, especially women’s empowerment and livelihoods.
