Bishop Stuart University is the fastest growing, chartered, private educational institution founded in 2002 by Ankole Diocese of the province of the Anglican Church of Uganda, located in Kakoba Mbarara, 31/2 km from Mbarara City Headquarters.

Bishop Stuart University collaboration with Muni University, Gulu University and eight other partners is starting to implement a program called "Refugee and Host Community Youth Empowerment and Transformation Initiative (RETI)" with support from the Mastercard Foundation under the Young Africa Works Strategy.

Aims and Objectives

• To develop effective strategies for preservation and extension of knowledge through teaching and research.

• To provide instructions to all those admitted to the University and make provision for the advancement and stimulation of intellectual life to humanity.

• To offer Academic Programmes and courses which are relevant to the changing needs of Uganda and other parts of the world in their struggle for socio-economic development. A holistic approach will be adopted where men and women will develop their full potential academically, spiritually and physically, thus making them productive in their communities.

• To guide students to understand and accept themselves, their individual needs and talents, and to develop their potential for quality and productive life and service.

• To offer students an opportunity to commit their lives to Jesus Christ and to equip students to

live according to Christ’s great commission (Matthew 28:18-20).

• To play an effective role in the development and expansion of University education in Uganda, Africa and beyond.

• To provide resources for University Education, training, research and community service
• To appoint staff and approve programmes.

• To conduct research, which increases knowledge in general and makes a positive contribution to the national and international academia.

• To assist in the preservation, processing, transmission and dissemination of knowledge.

• To stimulate intellectual and cultural development of students.

• To conduct examinations and assessment for the grant of Degrees, Diplomas, Certificates and other Awards of the University.

• To provide a balanced programme and experience for harmonious and holistic development of students and staff.

• To carry out any other functions as may be permitted and approved by the University Council.
