BBC World Service Video Journalist Jobs in Kenya;BBC World Service is creating a new Horn of Africa Language Services Unit in Nairobi, bringing together BBC Somali, BBC Afaan Oromo, BBC Tigrinya and BBC Amharic under one editorial leadership structure. BBC Somali is trusted by Somali‑speaking audiences across Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya and the diaspora, with a strong editorial heritage and opportunity to transform into a digital‑first, video‑led operation reaching new generations via smartphones, YouTube and social media.

Key Responsibilities and Impact

  • Research, write, shoot, edit and deliver high‑quality multimedia content across radio, digital, podcast and online platforms.

  • Independently produce complete journalism packages across pre‑production, production and post‑production.

  • Exercise strong editorial judgment to deliver accurate, impartial and engaging stories.

  • Present and produce live or pre‑recorded content across BBC platforms.

  • Collaborate with editors and colleagues to share content, avoid duplication and uphold best practice.

  • Prioritise workloads effectively, delivering to tight deadlines.

  • Contribute to team development by leading projects, mentoring colleagues and sharing technical expertise.

    Skills and Experience

    Essential Criteria

  • Significant journalism experience with expertise in
    multimedia production, self‑shooting and video editing.

  • Sound editorial judgment and understanding of BBC standards, news values and audience needs.

  • Proven ability to originate and deliver compelling news stories using diverse technologies.

  • Excellent writing, editing and translation skills for multiple media formats.

  • Fluency in spoken and written Somali and English, with ability to write, sub‑edit and present professionally.

  • Strong planning, organisational and relationship‑building skills.

  • Adaptable and resilient under pressure, with knowledge of audience analytics and data‑led strategies.
