Job Description

World Service Languages is undergoing a restructuring programme which this role is included within. Therefore this role is only open to those who are substantively employed in World Service Languages, and those who are at risk of redundancy in other areas. Please only apply if your substantive role is within World Service Languages.

BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Create content for a variety of broadcast and digital media platforms, in multiple formats including audio and video.

  • Use your knowledge of the digital media market to produce interesting news content for our website and social media platforms.

  • Ensure the highest quality content is created for our audiences and conforms to BBC
    Values and editorial standards.

    Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

  • Knowledge of issues and trends affecting African audiences , as well as the changing needs of these audiences

  • Demonstrable knowledge in a journalistic background is essential.

  • Experience of digital newsgathering, original journalism, using various cameras and filing video from the field is important.

  • Track record of filming and editing high quality video content, with knowledge of working with Final Cut Pro and other tools and applications as required.

    Job Impact

    Decision making High level of responsibility and decision making; able to operate alone. No managerial responsibility. May be informally supported by junior staff i.e. Researchers, Coordinators and Assistants. Scope Covers a wide range of journalism activity, producing news content and supporting the production and presentation of programming.
