Job Definition:

The Head of Digital Learning and Computing will be responsible for overseeing the effective
implementation of digital technology throughout the school curriculum in addition to the teaching of
Computing lessons.

He/she will be expected to plan and conduct staff training sessions to further embed and develop the skills of staff. The post holder will be accountable to the Head.

Tasks and responsibilities associated with the Post will include:

Core Purpose of the Post

  • Having a clear strategy for the development and implementation of digital learning
    opportunities throughout the curriculum.
  • Teaching Computing from Early Years to Year 8, as required.
  • Plan and deliver high quality lessons in line with the agreed scheme of work for the
    department.
  • Establishing a safe and creative learning environment.
  • Maintaining appropriate standards of pupil behaviour.
  • Contributing to the school Enrichment Programme to promote the use of technology in
    learning.
  • Ensuring that children have a sound understanding of digital-safety and that the pupil/school
    ICT agreements and safeguarding policies are adhered to.
  • Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils and safeguarding their health and safety,
    both on school premises and when engaged in digital activities elsewhere.
  • Working with the Director Teaching and Learning to maintain and develop the school’s Virtual Learning Environment.
  • Assist The Director of ICT with the preparation and distribution of iPads to pupils.
  • Keeping up to date with curriculum developments and professional practice, both in the UK and worldwide.
  • Attending yearly inter-school curriculum meetings and sharing best practice.
  • Attend regular INSET training and be prepared to lead digital training sessions for school staff.
  • Liaising with members of the department and other colleagues concerning curriculum,
    schemes of work, teaching methods, record keeping etc. to provide continuity and uniformity in
    the department.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement and identify new initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Director Pastoral to develop policies and understanding of e-safety and

    Resources (Finance, Equipment and Facilities)
  • Oversee departmental orders in line with the Computing budget.
  • Ensure that the school’s digital and robotics equipment is stored, maintained and replaced
    where appropriate.
  • Work with local and international suppliers to ensure that the school’s digital equipment is
    appropriate for use.

    Leadership and Staff Management

  • Take the lead role in the development and management of record/information systems and
    oversee the input of data to ensure accuracy.
  • In consultation with the Senior Leadership Team, determine the need for and arrange
    provision, analysis and evaluation of data and detailed reports/information.
  • Review and update all departmental documentation and handbook, as well as the Code of
    Conduct for Digital Learning and pupil/school iPad Usage Contracts.
  • Ensure new teachers have appropriate induction to the school’s digital programmes.
  • Communicating with staff and with parents concerning pupils' progress and attending Parents’
    Meetings when required.
  • Co-ordinating before and after school clubs to promote Digital Learning.
  • Writing a detailed report
    on each pupil at the end of designated terms and submitting schemes
    of work, planning and record keeping when required.
  • Performing duties, as requested by the Head, for supervising the pupils outside the classroom
    e.g. Lunch/break etc.
  • ‘Covering’ for any colleague who cannot attend school for any reason and providing a cover
    sheet for colleagues if unable to attend school.
  • Overseeing attractive displays on designated boards around the school when required.
  • To attend weekly Staff Meetings, INSETs, whole school meetings and any other meetings that
    may require attendance.
  • Maintaining high personal standards of appearance and behaviour and being punctual and
    confidential at all times.
  • Attending assemblies and school functions when required.

    The applicant needs to:

  • Possess a degree or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Have experience of working in British Curriculum Schools.
  • Possess a vision for the future of digital learning in a leading preparatory school.
  • Have the capacity to lead and inspire colleagues.
  • Have a passion for the use of technology in education.
  • Be able to build good relationships with parents and families.
  • Be able to build good relationships with colleagues.
  • Be able to create a stimulating and engaging learning environment.
  • Be able to use initiative, show flexibility and be adaptable.
  • Be pro-active, dynamic and a self-motivated member of The Banda School team.
  • Be punctual and use time appropriately.
  • Be a good communicator with adults and children.
  • Show good organisational skills.
  • Show a good level of written English.
  • Present a clean Certificate of Good Conduct or International Child Protection Certificate
    (ICPC)
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of the pupils.
  • Keep up to date with educational developments and be committed to continual personal
    and professional development.
  • Be a motivator.

    It is desirable if the applicant:

  • Holds the Apple Teacher qualification or the Apple Distinguished Educator qualification.
  • Can contribute to the school’s wider curriculum through sport or alternative subject
    teaching.
  • The post holder will have the responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the
    children and young persons for whom he / she is responsible, or with whom he / she comes
    into contact, and will be expected to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s
    Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy at all times.
