Job Description

Aynage Child and Family Development Organization (ACFDO) is a Community Based, non-governmental, not for profit, non-religious and discriminations free, Indigenous and legally registered Ethiopian resident charity organization that exists to help the Deprived, Excluded and Vulnerable children become productive, confident, responsible citizens, parents and leaders of tomorrow.

The Organization has been implementing in three core life stage programmatic areas, namely:-Life Stage1-Early Childhood Development (ECD), Life stage2-Basic Education, and Life stage3-Youth Development programs in partnership with ChildFund Ethiopia.

The Organization wants to fill the currently vacant position of “Basic education Program Officer” with qualified and experiences enriched individual who fulfills the following requirements:-

The post holder will promote quality learning opportunities, increase learning outcomes and enhance achievements in basic education to vulnerable enable children in target communities become educated and confident; and acquire life skills, social competencies and transition successfully to adolescence.

He/she will also work with target schools in the operational area through- partners/affiliates, government authorities, to increase school attendance, especially for girls; completion rate, and promote parent’s participation in school activities; facilitate the development of the child agency to build children’s confidence and resilience.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote Child Friendly School (CFS) and participatory school governance among schools in the respective area;
  • Ensure that all target schools implement Child-Centered Learning Environments, Meaningful Active Teaching and Learning, Families and Communities participation and partnership building;
  • Promote school enrollment through alternative basic education (ABE) opportunities for deprived, excluded and vulnerable children in affiliated communities;
  • Assist communities in establishing ABE centers to reach out school children;
  • Ensure that activities that contribute to promoting educated and confident children are incorporated in the PDD, ASP and Annual Operating Plan;
  • Improve school community relationship for the integration of Child friendly school( CFS )
  • Conduct assessment on the projects interventions in the operational area
    to identify potential gaps and design relevant interventions to address the gaps identified;
  • Facilitate base line survey of children in basic education;
  • Assist sector office and schools in planning and implementing CFSs framework, promote Participatory School Governance (PSG) and create Alternative Basic Education (ABE) opportunities for deprived, excluded and vulnerable children;
  • Facilitate networking with potential partners that can support project’s education strategy and interventions;
  • Promote positive child rearing practices in the community, early stimulation of children and ensure child protection services at family and schools;
  • Ensure school teachers are equipped with participatory tools so as to develop active learning environment and foster child participation skills;

    Terms of Employment:

    One year with possibility of extension based on performance.

    Job Requirements

    Education

  • BA degree in Education preferably in educational planning and management.

    Work Experience

  • Five years’ experience in the practical implementation of education projects.
  • NGO Experience preferred;

    Demonstrate Competencies

  • Good technical knowledge in the field of quality education.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational, inter-personal, communication and report writing skills.
  • Computer literate in word processing and excel packages.
  • Experience in developing and monitoring budgets.
  • An understanding of child well-being and their protection and fulfillment
