Job Summary
Prepare, cook and serve nutritious, high-quality meals for patients, staff and authorized visitors in accordance with prescribed dietary requirements, food safety standards and healthcare catering guidelines.
Ensure excellent food service delivery, compliance with infection prevention standards and maintenance of a clean, safe and hygienic kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
Meal Preparation, Planning & Service
Prepare and cook meals according to approved recipes, menus and dietary requirements using appropriate cooking methods including baking, braising, frying, roasting and steaming.
Ensure all meals meet required standards for quality, quantity, presentation and temperature before service.
Prepare meals for patients with special dietary requirements such as diabetic, low-calorie, high-calorie and therapeutic diets.
Serve patient meals professionally, discreetly and in a personalized manner.
Ensure meals are delivered accurately and on time according to patient requirements.
Clear and collect used plates, trays, cutlery and service items from wards and offices promptly.
Minimize food wastage through proper portion control, storage and food handling practices.
Respond promptly to special meal requests, including post-operative, maternity and other patient-specific dietary needs.
Cleaning & Infection Control
Clean food preparation areas, kitchen equipment, utensils and workstations in accordance with infection prevention and control procedures.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the kitchen and surrounding areas.
Apply the "Clean As You Go" principle during all food preparation and service activities.
Ensure non-daily cleaning schedules are completed as required.
Support compliance with food safety, hygiene and infection control standards.
Personal Hygiene & Food Safety Compliance
Maintain the highest standards of personal hygiene and professional appearance.
Wear the prescribed clean uniform and personal protective equipment at all times.
Ensure food handler medical examinations are completed every six months as required.
Comply with food safety regulations and healthcare catering standards.
Equipment & Operational Support
Report kitchen equipment malfunctions, breakages and maintenance concerns to the Head of Catering.
Ensure proper use and care of catering equipment and utensils.
Assist in maintaining adequate kitchen supplies and service readiness.
Support smooth day-to-day catering
operations.
Confidentiality & Professional Conduct
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Demonstrate professionalism and respect when interacting with patients, visitors and colleagues.
Adhere to organizational policies, procedures and service standards.
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor in line with the job description.
Qualifications
Diploma or Higher Diploma in Food Production, Culinary Arts or a related field.
Valid Food Handler Certification as required by applicable regulations.
Training in food safety and hygiene practices will be an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Cook in a hospital, hospitality, institutional catering or related environment.
Experience preparing meals for diverse dietary and nutritional requirements is desirable.
Experience working in a healthcare or patient-care environment will be an added advantage.
