The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia.

The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae).

AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.

AHRI would like to hire qualified candidate in the position of Associate Researcher II under Knowledge Management Directorate.

Job Description

The Associate Researcher I will support a wide range of communications and engagement work, creating research products and liaise communication materials in collaboration with Information Communication Technology (ICT) team to communicate effectively with Research target audience in the nation and beyond, helping to build, protect and sustain the AHRI’s reputation among these audiences.

He/she also expected to be well-organized and self-motivated, ideally with experience of a broad range of communications activities, from sourcing, creating and editing mainly research material for websites, publications, social media platforms, media, and internal communications.

The research communication officer expected to be a confident communicator with people at all levels and ready to work comfortably.

The Associate Researcher I will be part of the knowledge management directorate team and s/he will actively have expected to involve on development of research digest and policy briefs to strengthen evidence generation that enhance dissemination of scientific data and use of information for decision making.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Keep track of AHRI Research broader activities, identify opportunities to communicate AHRI’s work and that of the institution in a timely and engaging manner.

  • Facilitate preparation of scientific forums for research findings dissemination, preparing policy briefs, research digest, scientific and technical institutional reports and devising
    other research results dissemination mechanisms

  • Managing Research social media accounts: create content ensuring it is appropriate, timely and engaging

  • Promoting the social media accounts to ensure research content and emerged knowledge

  • Proofreading research work from AHRI Research and Innovation and students partner.

  • In collaboration with ICT team, create a range of communications content for the website, as per AHRI’s Research policy.

  • Work with AHRI Researchers and students to ensure content is published on the AHRI website in a timely manner and that the content, look and feel remains consistent and professional.

  • In collaboration with ICT team, keep track of and report media coverage of AHR’s Research work, social media comments and metrics and website analytics.

  • Facilitate the delivery of AHRI’s Research events, seminars and scientific conferences.

  • Support the ICT team in managing Research subscriptions to media outlets.

  • Lead AHR’s Research communications delivery.

  • Support documentation of research evidences and other related institutional information for utilization in publications, institutional planning and evaluation

  • Experience of and confidence working across a very wide range of communications channels.

  • Experience of working effectively with a range of people at all levels, both internally and externally.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.

  • Experience of working independently, proactively and with minimal supervision.

  • Flexibility to travel including sometimes working outside of office hours

    Job Requirements

    Education, Experience & Publication Point:

  • BSc in Health Communication or related field and 2 years of experience and 4 publication points: OR

  • MSc in Health Communication or related field and 2 years of experience and 3 publication points: OR

  • PhD in Health Communication or related field
