  • The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia.

  • The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae).

  • AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.

  • AHRI would like to hire qualified candidate in the position of Researcher II.

    Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the day today activities of the molecular laboratory

  • Lead the establishment of good laboratory management system

  • Train laboratory members of the directorate on the planning, coordination and reporting aspect of laboratory activities

  • Liaise between the laboratory coordinator and PIs to insure GCLP is established and maintained

  • Work closely with colleagues to identify opportunities for improvement

  • Train on documentation systematic documentation of experimental work

  • Insure completeness and capture of data timely, summarize
    and present best practices and loopholes for improvement

  • Write protocols, reports and SOPs when needed

  • Assist in Ordering/maintaining instruments and reagents for Adama and central lab Requirements

  • Work in the molecular laboratory; especially genomics and proteomics related works

  • Grant writing

    Job Requirements

    Education, Experience & Publication Point

  • MSc in Biotechnology or similar field AND nine (9) years work experience AND sixteen (16) publication points; and a background in Biomedical Science is an added advantage; OR

  • PhD in Biotechnology or similar field AND six (6) years work experience AND sixteen (16) publication points; and a background in Biomedical Science is an added advantage

  • Experience in research demonstrated by high impact publications is mandatory

  • Willing to travel and assume additional responsibilities as might be necessary
