Job Purpose

  • The quality officer is responsible for the overall establishing and implementation of the quality management system at the laboratory.

  • The quality officer shall receive support and training from management to ensure they effectively implement and maintain the Quality Management System of the Laboratory

    Key Responsibilities

  • Cascading general plan of the directorate, perform a detailed weekly, monthly and yearly plan. And develop quality management plan of the laboratory

  • Ensuring that processes needed for the quality management system are established, implemented, and maintained

  • Ensuring and monitor implementation of the quality policy manual and safety program

  • Ensuring that all documents are controlled and appropriately maintained

  • Reporting to the laboratory director on the performance of the quality management system and any improvement needs

  • Ensures implementation of quality control in the laboratory for tests as applicable

  • Overseeing that staff maintain confidentiality of patients/study participants and adhere to customer service standards of laboratory.

  • Monitoring standards of performance and quality improvement of the laboratory

  • Ensures that the laboratory participates in EQA for available tests validate and communicate results

  • Review EQA feedback reports with all staff. Assists in investigation of poor performance and identification of root causes

  • Ensuring uninterrupted service delivery at all times

  • Overseeing development and document control of standard operating procedures and other related documents

  • Annually review all standard operating procedures and related documents

  • Ensure appropriate document archiving and destroying

  • Provides training to laboratory personnel on all quality activities

  • Overseeing orientation and onsite training of new laboratory staffs

  • Coordinate competency evaluation of laboratory personnel.

  • Conduct monthly review of quality and technical records including quality control data

  • Trouble shoot and provide solutions to QC problems

  • Monitor and timely update quality indicators

  • Perform root cause analysis for any deviations

  • Documents quality occurrences in compliance with
    the quality plan of the laboratory

  • Advises laboratory unit coordinators of significant quality control/quality assurance issues.

  • Conduct monthly management review

  • Analyzes technical problems pertaining to specimen adequacy, laboratory data, and instrumentation; determine cause and rectifies problems in accordance with guidelines and procedures

  • Establishes and maintains an internal audit system; develops a schedule for performing audits; coordinates the audit process; manages corrective action efforts and advises the laboratory unit leaders on the outcomes.

  • Participate in case team meeting, workshops, Seminars, Journal clubs, and other committee meetings

  • Assists with inventory management of supplies and assure that laboratory areas remain stocked with needed supplies.

  • Plan and lead the institutional effort in implementing automated sample storage system called Pathogen Asset Control System (PACS)

  • Participates in the preparation for all inspections by accreditation agencies

  • Investigate and address any complaints from users of laboratory services

    Job Requirements

  • MSc/ BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology/Microbiology/Molecular Biology or related AND 2 years of experience for BSc or 0 years of experience of MSc

  • Specialized Skills

  • BSC planning and reporting skill

  • Quality management system
