  • Field Interviewers for a Research Project

    The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) invites applications for field interviewers for the iMlango (GEC-T) Evaluation Project midline.

    iMlango (GEC-T) is a technology-driven intervention that aims to ensure girls have a successful progression through primary and secondary schools and a transition to adult occupations in the 4 Counties of Uasin Gishu, Kajiado, Makueni and Kilifi.

    The project will be evaluated against three high-level outcomes: Learning, Transition and Sustainability.

    It is being implemented by Avanti Communications and its partners, along with the Ministry of Education (MoE), and evaluated by APHRC.

    Quantitative Field Interviewers’ Minimum qualifications:

  • Must have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education certificate, with a minimum of C Plain.
  • Have strong interpersonal and English and Swahili communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Familiarity and proficiency in using smart phones, tablets and/electronic gadgets for quantitative data collection, particularly use of Survey CTO or Open Data Kit (ODK).
  • Experience in conducting interviews with adolescents and households.
  • Be familiar with and proficient in computer applications including use of MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint.
  • Be a resident of one of the four counties: Kilifi, Makueni, Kajiado or Uasin Gishu County.
  • Must be available full time for training and during the entire data collection period
  • Any other related assignment(s), assigned by the supervisor, project manager and the principal investigator (PI).
  • Good knowledge of child protection policy.
  • Must have a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

    Qualitative Field Interviewers’ Minimum qualifications:
  • Must have first degree in Education or in other Social Science field.
  • Have proven experience and skills in qualitative research work.
  • Ability to facilitate interviews and group discussions in English and Swahili.
  • Experience in conducting interviews among students/learners/adolescents/households in Kenya is an added advantage.
  • Experienced in using electronic data collection devices like electronic digital recorders and Survey CTO
    or Open Data Kit (ODK).
  • Be familiar with and proficient in computer applications including use of MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint.
  • Have proven experience in research work (quantitative and/or qualitative data collection), including learning assessments and surveys.
  • Be a resident of one of the four counties: Kilifi, Makueni, Kajiado or Uasin Gishu County.
    Possess strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and facilitation skills.
  • Have experience in note taking during qualitative discussions.
  • Must be available full time for training and during the entire data collection period.
  • Good knowledge of child protection policy.
  • Must have a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
