APHRC Research Officer Jobs in Kenya

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization that carries out high quality, policy-relevant research on population, health and education issues facing sub-Saharan Africa.


Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action to improve the lives of all Africans. The Center seeks to recruit a research officer to work within its Population Dynamics, sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights unit.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the process of obtaining ethical approval for research projects
  • Develop study tools, training manuals and field guides to use for data collection
  • Coordinate the recruitment, training and supervision of field teams
  • Coordinate field work and be responsible for data quality
  • Mobilize and sensitize key stakeholders about research projects
  • Participate in the data analysis, scientific writing and research proposals development
  • Prepare regular field and project reports
  • Participate in dissemination of research findings and policy dialogue with relevant audiences
  • Take lead in preparing progress and end-of-grant reports to donors
  • Support development of funding proposals
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

    Skills and Qualifications

  • Masters in any of the following areas: Public Health, Epidemiology, Sociology, Biological Sciences, Applied Statistics, Development Studies or related disciplines
  • At least two years’ post-Masters qualification experience, preferably in a research setting
  • Good computer literacy and knowledge of multiple statistical and/or qualitative software packages such as STATA, SPSS, NVivo or ATLAS.ti
  • Experience conducting field research and managing data collection teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English and Kiswahili
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, juggle tasks and meet tight deadlines
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals
