APHRC Qualitative and Quantitative Field Interviewers (RECKITT Study) - Jobs in Kenya



  • The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa based international research institute committed to conducting high quality and policy relevant multidisciplinary research. Our research addresses important development issues and challenges facing sub-Saharan Africa in areas such as education, population, health, aging, urbanization and wellbeing.

  • Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action, engage with policy makers in the region to disseminate our research findings, influence policy decisions, and improve the quality of life in Africa. The APHRC invites applications for Qualitative and Quantitative Field Interviewers in a study that aims to evaluate the status of handwashing practices in Kenya, and design handwashing facilities that will be managed and maintained by community members in low income areas within Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa and Kisumu.


    Duties and responsibilities
  • Recruit study participants who meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Mobilize study participants.
  • Consent study participants.
  • Conduct in-depth interviews, key informant interviews and focus group discussions.
  • Write and submit comprehensive notes of interviews and discussions.
  • Ensure that data is of high quality.
  • Prepare field progress reports and updates in liaison with the supervisor.
  • Any other task assigned by the supervisor or project manager.


    Minimum qualifications required
  • Should have a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Be a resident of Nairobi (preferably from Kangemi), Nakuru (preferably from Kwa Rhonda and Kaptembwo), Mombasa (preferably from Kisumu Ndogo and Mishomoroni), and Kisumu (preferably from Obunga and Manyatta).
  • Have proven experience in data collection using electronic data capture methods.
  • Proficient in English, Kiswahili, and local languages in the respective areas (verbal and written).
  • Excellent interpersonal and report writing skills.
  • Must be fully available for the training and during the entire data collection period.

  • Prepare field progress
    reports and updates in liaison with the supervisor.
  • Ensure that data is of high quality and participate in resolving queries as they arise.
  • Any other task assigned by the supervisor or project manager


    Minimum qualifications required
  • Must have at least a KCSE (C plain) and above.
  • Be a resident of Nairobi (preferably from Kangemi), Nakuru (preferably from Kwa Rhonda and Kaptembwo), Mombasa (preferably from Kisumu Ndogo and Mishomoroni), and Kisumu (preferably from Obunga and Manyatta).
  • Have proven experience and skills in quantitative data collection, e.g., using a survey tool and conducting structured observations.
  • Have proven experience in data collection using electronic data capture methods
  • Proficient in English, Kiswahili and local languages in the four areas.
  • Excellent interpersonal, and report writing skills
  • Be prepared to work full-time on the project for the duration of the study.
