Amref International University (AMIU) is looking for a qualified Senior Lecturer – Nursing and Midwifery to develop, manage and monitor implementation of postgraduate and undergraduate programmes.

Actively engage in all relevant associated operational administration, curriculum review or development; performance and quality assurance management; seek to enhance accreditation of academic programmes by relevant professional bodies and Commission of University Education.

The holder of this post will work with the Head of Department to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching of academic programmes in accordance with University strategy, policy and procedures, undertake research activity and engage in both department level and AMIU enterprise activities.

The senior lecturer will play a central in the student and staff mentorship to influence leading edge practice in the learning environment.

Job Purpose

To develop, manage and monitor implementation of postgraduate and undergraduate programmes.

Main activities and responsibilities

Student learning experience

  • Responsible for assisting the Head of Department (HOD) in managing taught
    programmes, including oversight of day to day operational processes (e.g. timetabling,
    assessment, examination systems) and programme accreditation processes.
  • Assist the Head of Department (HOD) to ensure that programme design and delivery
    comply with the quality standards and regulations of the University.
  • Contribute to the development of academic processes across the institution.
  • Contribute to the development of learning and teaching strategies.
  • Teach a range of materials.
  • Develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students.
  • Work with the Head of Department (HOD) in monitoring of student progress and provide
    advice and guidance to personal tutors and students as appropriate.
  • Act as an internal examiner.

    Research, enterprise and scholarship

  • Undertake and contribute to research, conducting individual research or collaborating with others.
  • Conduct individual or collaborative scholarly projects.
  • Design collaborative research and / or enterprise activity producing high quality outputs with demonstrable impact, in particular influencing leading edge practice.
  • Engage in knowledge generation, knowledge exchange and knowledge transfer activities.
  • Identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds for own
    research or scholarly projects.
  • Be aware and informed of developments in higher education relevant to the development
    of learning and teaching and research strategies within the School, Faculty and University.
  • Plan and deliver consultancies to ensure availability of resources.

    Liaison and networking

  • Lead and develop internal networks, for example by chairing and participating in University committees or working groups.
  • Act as an external examiner to other institutions and provide professional advice as
    appropriate.
  • Develop links with external contacts such as other educational bodies, employers and
    professional bodies to foster collaboration.
  • Actively collaborate within the University and externally on relevant research projects.

    Academic administration

  • Be responsible for quality, audit and other external assessments in own areas of
    responsibility.
  • Work with the Head of Department (HOD) to have all programmes accredited by relevant
    regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure that operational processes such as timetabling, assessment and examinations are
    managed.

    Person Specification

  • Depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a doctorate level qualification, preferably a PhD.
  • At least five (5) years teaching experience in a University setting
  • In depth understanding of own specialism to enable the development of new knowledge
    and understanding within the field.
  • External recognition as a scholar, teacher and/or practice based professional.
  • Experience of teaching curriculum development and quality management and
    enhancement in an HE environment.
  • Experience of managing research projects, teams, and preferably experience of acting as
    a principal investigator.
  • Evidence of at least 5 high quality publications or other outputs in research or practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates strong student-centric approach to ways of working and commitment to high quality standards.
