Amref International University Senior Lecturer – MLS Jobs in Kenya

To lead the development and implementation of the degree training courses offered by the Laboratory Department of the Amref International University to promote quality health care services to the people

of Africa

Main duties and responsibilities


Planning

  • Monthly, quarterly and annual planning as well as ad hoc planning of department activities in consultation and collaboration with the Head of the Department, other staff, the regulator body and partners
  • In accordance with standard operating procedures

    Organising

  • Coordinating the execution of events and activities of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Department,including development of materials, training, research, M&E, supervision, meetings and workshops

    Reporting

  • Developing and distributing a variety of reports including minutes, monthly, activity and annual reports from the Department to the Head of the Department, AMIU higher authorities, Amref Health Africa, collaborators, donors, partners and staff as may be relevant
  • In accordance with department implementation timelines and
    guidelines

    Information Management

  • Maintaining relevant databases and filing systems for optimal management of information, contacts and Department training activities

    Office Management

  • Maintaining an inventory of equipment and
    supplies for delivery of training by the Department

    Liaisons

  • Liaising with both external and internal contacts in coordination with the Head of Department to ensure follow-up and execution of planned activities. This includes but is not limited to Amref Health Africa collaborators, donors, partner, and staff as may be relevant
  • In accordance with institutional rules and
    regulations; and AMIU policy and guidelines

    Budget Control

  • Monitoring the Department budget and
    expenditures and providing support to its
    preparation, amendment and reporting as needed
  • In accordance with implementation timelines and guidelines Department enterprise development
  • Support development of
    activities and tools to promote the self-sustainability of the Department
  • In accordance with agreed programme
    development initiatives


    Qualifications


  • PhD in Medical Laboratory Sciences or relevant area from a recognized institution
  • Training in teaching methodology is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of all AMIU policies, regulations and guidelines
  • Teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels of at least five (5) years.
  • Knowledge and skills in training, supervising and mentoring workers in the laboratory profession
  • Publication of at least 3 papers in peer reviewed journals; at least one paper as first author
  • Evidence of continuing research activity
  • Should have supervised at least three (3) Master’s degree students
  • Leadership and management skills in delivering learning in the medical laboratory sciences
  • Ability to design teaching materials and deliver a range of modules in Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Use of computer (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access) including Internet, Intranet and browsing skills.
  • Sufficient knowledge and skills in clinical laboratory testing and related subjects
