About the Role
The Research and Evidence Specialist plays a key role in strengthening the evidence base for the PEP Project through the coordination and implementation of research activities across partner institutions.
The position supports harmonized project implementation, high-quality data collection, evidence generation, and utilization of research findings to improve training outcomes.
The role contributes to building institutional capacity in education research, implementation science, monitoring and evaluation, and evidence-based decision-making.
The Specialist will work closely with three public university partners to ensure effective coordination and achievement of project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Planning and Coordination
Participate in the development and implementation of PEP project work plans, particularly research, monitoring, and evaluation activities.
Coordinate project implementation across the three partner public universities to ensure alignment with project goals, timelines, and deliverables.
Facilitate collaboration and communication between AMIU and partner institutions on research and evidence-generation activities.
Support integration of research findings into project design, planning, and continuous improvement efforts.
Liaise with academic institutions, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to support evidence-informed approaches to health professions training.
Technical Support
Coordinate the development and implementation of research protocols with project partners.
Contribute to research grant proposal development and implementation.
Build capacity among faculty, graduate students, and project staff in research methodologies, data analysis, and evidence utilization.
Support partner institutions in strengthening research systems, structures, and processes.
Provide technical guidance on educational research, evaluation frameworks, and data-driven decision-making.
Promote adoption of digital tools and platforms for data collection, analysis, reporting, and dissemination.
Support integration of research into innovative learning approaches such as e-learning, simulation, and blended learning.
Support documentation and submission of proposals and grant applications.
Coordinate implementation of field-based research activities.
Develop and manage budgets for research activities.
Perform additional duties assigned by the Director.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
Engage stakeholders to promote evidence-based decision-making in health professions education.
Build and maintain partnerships with universities, research organizations, and development partners.
Advocate for adoption of innovative and research-informed training approaches.
Support
stakeholder sensitization activities, workshops, and knowledge-sharing forums.
Reporting Line
Reports directly to the Technical Lead – Health Professions Education.
Educational Qualifications and Experience
Education
Master’s Degree in Public Health with specialization in:
Biostatistics;
Epidemiology;
Statistics; or related disciplines.
Bachelor’s Degree in:
Health Sciences;
Public Health;
Biostatistics/Statistics;
Mathematics;
Or an equivalent field.
Professional Experience
Experience working in research or research-related projects within a similar organization.
Experience in educational research is an added advantage.
Evidence of publication of at least two (2) articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Minimum two (2) years of experience working in a busy research environment.
Required Skills
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills in English and Kiswahili.
Proficiency in data analysis using at least two of the following:
R;
Stata;
EPI Info.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Strong budgeting and financial-planning skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a multicultural environment.
Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent ICT and digital-literacy skills.
