Main Purpose of Job

Perform the task as a Clinical Officer in Amref and Amref supported sites under the supervision of an experienced clinician and report to the medical officer.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Providing clinical care to HIV infected patients in the Clinic
  • Support PITC as appropriate
  • Support linkage of patients into care
  • Correct diagnosis and management of ailments
  • Screen and manage Opportunistic Infections
  • Determine eligibility for Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) using the latest guidelines
  • Initiate and monitor clients on ART including prevention and management of treatment failure
  • Detect and manage side-effects of ART
  • Initiate and monitor Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)
  • Manage PMTCT clients including early infant diagnosis and HEI follow up
  • Ensure smooth flow of services in the health centre from OPD to exit pharmacy
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and other data collection as required for monitoring, evaluation and research within the Clinic

    Drugs/supplies

  • Work with pharmacy on essential drugs required at the health centre and
    ensure rational use.
  • Working with pharmacy staff to ensure pharmacovigilance is applied on ART and general outpatient drugs.

    Laboratory

  • Working together with the Lab staff to ensure relevant investigations are
    done on a timely manner with the correct results and ensure quality control at all times.

    Trainings

  • On Job training
    of interns in the health centre and satellite clinics as
    appropriate

    Report writing

  • Assist in preparing and presenting Monthly, Quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports with the guidance of the medical officer and project
    manager.

    Required Qualifications

    Minimum Education - (academic and professional)

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery
  • Registered with relevant professional body
  • Valid current practicing license

    Experience

  • Over 2 years working experience. At least one year experience in managing HIV patients
  • Experience in working in informal settlement in a similar position will be an added advantage

    Hours of Work

  • Normal working hours as per Amref guidelines and regulations.
  • Job holder may be required to work outside normal working hours due to the nature of the work in general.
