Job Description

Alma Research is seeking local researchers and enumerators to support qualitative field data collection with an upcoming conflict assessment on natural resource management in northern Kenya counties of Turkana, Samburu, Laikipia, West Pokot and Isiolo in July 2023.

Role and Responsibilities include:

  • Attend a 2-3 day training with the contracting agency’s assessment team on the tools, methodologies and approaches (location to be determined), collaborating with the contracting agency on the selection of the training location;

  • Support translation of data collection tools into relevant local languages;

  • Collect approximately KIIs and FGDs across urban and rural areas of the aforementioned counties;

  • Maintain detailed interview transcripts from all KIIs and FGDs;

  • Provide a
    minimum of biweekly updates on data collection progress;

  • Participate in weekly debrief sessions (three total) with the assessment team throughout data collection and immediately following data collection;

  • Upload translated interview data into KoBo or another electronic data collection software.

    Competencies

  • Prospective candidates must have strong interpersonal skills as well as good qualitative and quantitative skills

  • Fluency in both spoken and written English, Swahili and local languages is required.

  • Knowledge of the local context

  • Experience conducting qualitative research collection in the specified counties and on conflict dynamics or a closely related field;

  • Willingness to work in demanding, stressful situations under difficult field working conditions with respect for basic security rules;

  • Diploma or degree in Development studies, statistics and other relevant courses;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite is required.
