We are searching for an energetic, innovative manager to lead the actuarial team supporting the geographies centered in Johannesburg.

The role reports to the MEA Chief Actuary.

Job Description

  • Prepare quarterly statutory reserve estimates, including working with Head of Actuarial Function, as per local reporting requirements;
  • Produce US GAAP reserve estimates, as per corporate reporting requirements;
  • Work closely with the business and underwriting teams to help drive profitability and growth.
  • Implement usage of Apollo, understand the tool, its requirement and re-design actuarial process accordingly if required.
  • Collaborate with Finance Managers and assist on the production of legal entity and production office loss ratios for business planning purposes, capital modelling, etc,
  • Streamline data production and reconciliations
  • Assist in Asset Liability Management processes by calculating expected cash flows
  • Work closely with Claims, Reinsurance and
  • Underwriting teams to understand how reserving practices, treaty set up and business changes impact our business
  • Provide insightful analytics to key stakeholders across the business.
  • Coordinate and ensure consistency in approach and execution of reserve reviews including data production, modeling and presentation of results across geographies
  • Support in any project or ad-hoc requirements as needed

    Qualifications & Skills:
  • Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or related areas required
  • Nearly or newly qualified actuary
  • 5-10 years of working experience in the P&C insurance industry. Life experience beneficial.
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, and communication skills
  • Team Player – ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to gather inputs and align objectives and recommendations through quantitative analysis
  • Experienced in people’s management;
  • Ability to navigate through complexity.
  • Critical thinking, execution skills
