Position Summary:
The prevention Program Coordinator will coordinate prevention activities in a more and efficient ways to maximize achievement of AHF’s HIV program results. The prevention Program Coordinator will be reporting directly to the Prevention Program Manager.

S/he is responsible to supporting and assuring the planning, implementation, and evaluation of an innovative, interdisciplinary prevention program. The program aims are to prevent HIV/AIDS, to describe risky/protective factors for target population, encourage testing for HIV, etc.

As a Program Coordinator, S/he will coordinate outreach activities and events focused on prevention, education and support services for individuals at a higher risk for HIV infection. This is a hands-on role where you will have active engagement, helping to connect individuals to programs and services in our community.

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Take the lead role in coordinating the implementation HIV prevention activities in static and all AHF Ethiopia outreach sites
  • Work with AHF-Ethiopia prevention and advocacy team to identify potential sites for outreach HCT activities
  • Work with the Prevention Program Manger to identify, recruit, and assign qualified staff for outreach HCT activities; counselors, laboratory technicians, registration clerks & security guards
  • Follow up and support the day to day activities of outreach HCT activities
  • Take the lead role in coordinating facility based testing and lead in coordinating index testing
  • Ensures availability and facilitate allocation of all HIV counseling and testing supplies, and materials for outreach and static HCT activities. Work with the Prevention Program Manager in strengthening and maintaining partnership with relevant government and non-government stakeholders
    Work with the Prevention Program Manager and
  • Advocacy & Lobbyist officer in organizing promotional and HIV
    advocacy activities using appropriate media to mobilize the community for HIV prevention, treatment, & care activities
    Take the lead role in supervising AHF Ethiopia HCT staffs and organize regular supportive supervision
  • Assist in the preparation of AHF-Ethiopia’s country HIV prevention and advocacy program plan in joint with AHF-Ethiopia HIV Prevention Team and AHF-Ethiopia Management
  • Participate in the development of project proposal together with the country program teams in expanding AHF’s HIV prevention and advocacy program
  • Coordinate and organize AHF-Ethiopia HIV prevention and advocacy events, campaigns, preparation of promotional items and other community mobilization activities including, but not limited to, World AIDS Day (WAD) and International Condom Day (ICD)
  • Coordinate the referral linkage process from the outreach testing sites to AHF Clinics or other health care facilities
  • Ensure that HIV testing activity documentation is properly undertaken and analyzed for reports in a timely manner, and prepare and submit regular progress reports
  • The needs and circumstances may change over time and therefore the Job Description may need to be reviewed in light of any such changes which may occur.
  • Work with the Prevention Program Manager in exploring new opportunities for the prevention activities.
  • Execute other activities related to the position assigned by the Prevention Program Manager and Country Program Manager

    Job Requirements

    Education, Qualification, and Experience:

  • MSc/MPH/MA degree in Health/HIV, Social Science or other relevant field from a recognized university with more than 5 years’ experience in a field directly related to HIV prevention activity.
  • Flexible, proactive and able to organize work independently as well as work in a team

    Core competencies required:

  • Good command of English language
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and writing
  • Solid knowledge and experience on program designing, implementation and monitoring & evaluation.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines
