Scope

  • Food security and livelihoods remains critical in AIC-Health Ministries operations for communities to realize their development needs.

  • Kenya’s Vision 2030 identifies agriculture
    as one of the key economic sectors expected to drive national development.

  • In an effort to realize this goal, AICHM livelihood project through the support of its development partners are seeking the services of an agronomist to continue offering/ implement livelihood support project to strengthen food security and improve the standards of living in Nasinyono community in Turkana County.

  • The candidate must have a thorough understanding of production agriculture concepts and techniques.

  • Must be a motivated, self-starter, identifying goals to be accomplished daily/annually.

  • Requires individual with problem solving and solution minded techniques.

    Experience Required, Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Under the overall supervision of the Head of programs and direct Supervision of
    Program coordinator, the incumbent shall be responsible for supporting the projects
    under livelihood by assisting in the implementation of field activities, mobilizing
    communities, collecting data and information, organizing events, monitoring and
    reporting progress of daily activities of the livelihoods component of the program in
    the field.

  • Knowledge of field plot design and experimental procedure

  • Be familiar with proper identification of plant disease and insect pests affecting
    cereals and field crops.

  • Working knowledge of and the ability to safely operate research planting and
    harvest equipment, spray equipment operation/calibration, and all associated
    maintenance.

  • Be able to identify and diagnose field-plant-soil causal organisms and appropriate
    symptoms.

  • Assist in conducting interviews and collecting information on target beneficiaries
    for livelihood activities during assessments.

  • Assist in arranging community meetings by inviting participants, arranging for venue and other logistical aspects of the meeting.

  • Provide general assistance in the implementation of the project tasks in the project work plan.

  • Assist in monitoring activities of project beneficiaries according to work plans and
    reports deviations and delays.

  • Maintain documents and records of each beneficiary file as required by Project.

  • Provide support with counselling and Referral System (ICRS) Mechanism through a combination of hands-on training and self-directed learning.

  • Assist in reporting all issues on livelihood components.

  • Provide logistical assistance as required.

  • Submit report on the daily status of the project.

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

    Experience Required

  • Knowledge of field plot design and experimental procedure.

  • Be familiar with proper identification of plant disease and insect pests affecting
    cereals and field crops.

  • Working knowledge of and the ability to safely operate research planting and
    harvest equipment, spray equipment operation/calibration, and all associated
    maintenance.

  • Be able to identify and diagnose field-plant-soil causal organisms and appropriate
    symptoms.

  • At least 4 years professional work experience in the field of livelihood - including implementation of peace-building, agricultural or economic recovery projects in
    emergency/post conflict locations.

  • Experience in community mobilization.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook.

  • Writes and submits reports on regular basis and ability to outline good practices
    and success stories.

    Education Required

  • Degree in Agronomy, Plant or Soil Science or related fields from an accredited
    university or experience equivalent

    Languages

    Required

  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Kiswahili.

  • Knowledge of local language would be an advantage.

    Work Environment

  • Work performed outdoors in a production agricultural environment within Nasinyono
    Community in Turkana West subcounty Turkana County.
