Job Summary:

We are searching for Kenya’s smartest and most caring Medical Officer who want to become amazing all-around evidence-based providers.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the ongoing improvement of the quality of patient care in the hospital.
  • Provide for the availability of technical assistance for all clinical departments of the hospital (pharmacy, x-ray/ultrasound, laboratory, medical records etc.).
  • Keep medical staff documents up to date, including medical staff policies and procedures, the formulary, standards of care and treatment protocol manual.
  • Assure that effective communication of health records information is available to the clinical staff at all times and that health records are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain the staff needed to provide continuous medical and surgical services for the service areas approved by the Hospital Administration.
  • This includes inpatient services, outpatient services, theatre services, rural health clinic outreach services and any other services committed deemed necessary by the Medical Staff and Administration.
  • Oversee the continuing Medical Education (CME) program of the hospital for all clinical staff including doctors, medical students, nurses, laboratory, records and pharmacy personnel.
  • Providing superior interventional and preventative medical care based on approved guidelines and hospital policy.
  • Recruiting patients for specialist clinics and theatre e.g., Diabetes, HIV
  • Maintaining a portfolio of continuing professional development (CPD) activities
  • Ensuring superior customer care
  • Contributing and participating in the development of standards and best practices
  • Ensure Superior Customer Experience to all internal and external clients
  • Coordinate with medical team members to develop and sustain a method of continually improving the clinical care expected by the patients of the hospital by empowering the participation of all the staff at the ward/department level.
  • Coordinate all visiting short-term medical students and doctors who desire to work in the hospital.
  • Oversee the continuous quality improvement of the care delivered by the medical staff and integrate this with activities of the clinical staff at large. This will include regular review of patient morbidity and mortality by the medical staff
  • Ensure continuous medical training of other health professionals
  • Fostering inter-professional
    dialogue and consultation in health care matters.
  • Guide the process of recruitment, selection and retention of the medical and surgical staff as determined by the Hospital Administration.
  • Provide appropriate orientation to all new medical staff and ensure their integration into the clinical community.
  • Initiate regular medical staff communication and decision making mechanisms that encourage teamwork and shared policy making within it and with other clinical services.
  • Supervising the work of intern doctors and medical students.
  • Fostering teamwork in medical management- nurses, technicians etc.
  • Encouraging the clinical staff and participate in the spiritual outreach ministry of Aic Githumu Hospital within the work environment and throughout the local and regional community.
  • Liaison with medical advisory committee of the board on medical and health matters, County health management teams on technical, and staffing needs in collaboration with the CEO.
  • Represent the hospital to the County Health Team and any other medical representatives of Government agencies regarding the medical care given at the hospital.
  • Represent the medical staff at Management Meetings and Board of Governors Meetings.
  • Any other related activities as shall be assigned by the Hospital Director.

    Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery.
  • Current registration by the Medical Practitioners and dentists Board,

    Other Training Requirements

  • Advance life support,
  • HIV and AIDS care and treatment for adults and paediatrics.
  • ALS including neonatal emergency care.
  • Certificate level qualification in management of health facilities or programmes is an added advantage
  • Certificate qualifications in CQI
