Job summary

  • The Vocational Guidance and Counseling Officer will be assigned to work at Aha Career Development Center (CDC).

  • He/She will be responsible in closely working with client at the career development center, with TVET colleges, Job Matching Service Providers/JMSP/ and employers in caring out the key vocational guidance and counseling services (career information, career guidance, advising, and counseling, psychological screening, Placement, linkage and graduate tracker services, outreach services, incubator and job-fair activities ).

    Key responsibilities

  • Ensure that career information and guidance is continuously provided for TVET students and graduates individually or in group at Aha career development centre and partner TVET colleges .

  • Ensure that academic and lifelong guidance and advising services is being rendered based on the identified gaps and their felt need.

  • Ensure that effective and structured career counselling services is supported with psychological diagnosis and screening.

  • Ensure that counselling services is provided for students experiencing psychological and social problem that could be potentially disruptive to their life and successful academic, interpersonal and work-life adjustments.

  • Play a key role in student placement and streaming services, prepare graduates and equip them with the required skills for the job market.

  • Track academic and skill profile of graduates in
    digital form and facilitate intra-institutional linkage including with employers and job-matching service providers.

  • Organize a career fair in collaboration with TVET colleges, employers and partnering organizations to provide graduates with an opportunity to learn about career related issues such as choosing a career, networking skills and securing a job.

    Job Requirements

    Essential abilities and skills required

  • Must have the knowledge and skills to provide quality career or vocational guidance and counseling service to our clients.

  • Must be approachable and empathic for clients to be comfortable working with you.

  • Must be knowledgeable of different methods and be able to switch between different approaches to meet each client’s needs.

  • Excellent communication skills, specifically the ability to communicate with students of different ages and from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Adhere to all professional, ethical, and legal regulations as determined by relevant regulatory bodies.

  • Organize meetings, case conferences, case debriefings, trainings, seminars on topics relevant to our client base.

    Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology or Vocational /Career Counselling or related fields of study.

    Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in vocational guidance and counselling with different groups and diverse settings.
