Job Description
  • AESA is a renowned international consultancy company based in Brussels and which provides a wide range of services in the Agriculture and Rural Development Sector. T

  • he company was awarded the contract to provide a technical assistance team (TAT) to support implementation of the EU-funded €15 million 4-year project ‘Health of Ethiopian Animal for Rural Development’ (HEARD).

  • The TAT started work in August 2020 and is responsible for supporting the Project Coordination Unit in monitoring and coordination of project activities and providing advice and assistance.

  • The project is implemented by 5 grantees: International Livestock Research Institute with the Ethiopian Veterinary Association; the Livestock Bureau of Amhara, Oromia and Somali NRS; and the State Ministry for Livestock Resources (SMLR).   • AESA is the lead for the implementing consortium which includes three additional organizations namely VSF Suisse, VSF Belgium and the State Food and Veterinary Services of the Republic of Lithuania for this EU-HEARD technical assistance contract.

    Major Activities:

  • Review all aspects of the planning, implementation and monitoring of the current disease prevention and control system and make recommendations for its improvement;

  • Review disease contingency plans for major TADS and zoonoses and recommend improvements and implementation arrangements;

  • Create an understanding of the concepts of risk-based approaches for disease prevention and control, recommend approaches for
    its full adoption, and provide capacity-building support to the staff of disease prevention and control directorate;

  • Assess the value of the information generated by the National Animal Disease Surveillance System and recommend any necessary improvements

  • Build capacity of the disease prevention and control personnel

  • The experts will be short term and work full time.

  • The duty station will be Addis Ababa with visits to Amhara, Oromia and Somali NRS as required/possible. The fee rates will be negotiable

    Job Requirements

    Education

  • A degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from a recognized University and a postgraduate degree in Veterinary science;

  • Training in Risk Analysis and Good Emergency Management Practice

    Work Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of senior professional experience of disease prevention and control in federal and regional veterinary services.

  • Working experience in the East African region will be an additional asset.

  • Working knowledge of risk-based approach to disease prevention and control

    Necessary skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team of experts;

  • Good knowledge of the English language;

  • High level of skill in preparation of reports;

  • Excellent organisational, planning and communication skills;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
