Aga Khan University Kenya Faculty Research Project Job Vacancies

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a programme of research in areas of expertise
  • Pursue external grants actively to support existing and new lines of research
  • Develop cross-disciplinary and cross-campus research collaborations
  • Contribute to the building of relationships with Aga Khan Development Network entities to ensure the Institute’s work enhances the quality of field programmes and Aga Khan
  • Development Network’s field work enriches the Institute’s research and translational work
  • Contribute actively to knowledge on human development through high-quality publications
  • Translate research into knowledge forms usable by practitioners, policy makers, and advocates
  • Build relationships with communities and community-based service agencies to help ground the Institute’s work in real-world issues and questions
  • Contribute to the development of a programme of pre-and post-doctoral research education
  • Contribute to the mentoring of AKU faculty in their early career stages

    Requirements

  • Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or comparable research doctorate) in any of the behavioral, social, and health science fields that contribute to existing knowledge bases on human development. The position requires expertise in early human development, with a line of inquiry focusing particularly on cutting edge questions on the period before birth to age 8 years.
  • A record of successful grant acquisition
    Evidence of collaborative research and scholarly writing activity within and across disciplines
  • A strong record of thesis/dissertation supervision
  • Evidence of, and, strong interest in mentoring early-career faculty
  • Ability and willingness to contribute to an organizational ethos characterized by responsible citizenship, collective problem-solving, and respect for all forms of diversity.

    Aga Khan University Kenya Full Time Faculty, Surgical Oncologist, Department of Surgery Job Vacancies

    Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Chair of Surgery, the incumbent will be involved in the development of highly skilled and competent team in the delivery of quality services to patients and their families.
  • Through professional leadership, s/he will develop and implement work plans for services and growth in both quality and quantity in areas of specialization.
  • As part of faculty, s/he will teach and carry out research in defined areas as well as areas of professional interest and knowledge.

    Requirements

  • Applicants must have a Masters of Surgery or equivalent. All applicants must have internationally recognized training relevant to the speciality of Surgical Oncologist.
  • S/he must be registered or eligible for registration with Kenya Medical Practitioners’ & Dentists Board as a specialist.
  • S/he should have a minimum of 3 years clinical experience at a reputable institution with demonstrated interest in academic and research activities.
  • The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team.

    Aga Khan University Kenya Head of Oncology, Department of Medicine Job Vacancies

    Responsibilities

  • The Head will have the overall responsibility for the academic and service mandate of the different subspecialty sections involved in oncological care within the Department of Medicine and will have a cross-institutional leadership role to advance the strategic vision of the University as a leader in oncology service, research and education. In addition, the Head will have a key leadership role in the development of an AKDN regional oncology programme linking to Aga Khan Health Services in Kenya and Dar es Salaam and to the planned AKU Hospital in Kampala.

    Requirements

  • The ideal candidate must have a record of leadership within an academic health system, be at Associate Professor level or above, have specialist qualification in an Oncology subspecialty with excellent demonstrated clinical skills and a strong academic track record in clinical research, and be registered or eligible for registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists’ Board.
