Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH, N) is a private not-for-profit teaching hospital that provides tertiary and secondary level healthcare services. It is one of the hospitals in East Africa accredited by the Joint Commission International from USA. The University Hospital has been providing high quality care for the people of East Africa and beyond for over 60 years.

Applications are invited from qualified candidates for the above position based in Nairobi Kenya. The position holder will report to the Head Chef, Food Services Department.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for day-to-day kitchen operation (Indian Section)

Prepare, cook, and serve a variety of items in accordance with menus

Ensure food should be presented, preparation and service must up to par in the kitchen

Assisting in inventories, stock ordering management

Ensure kitchen safety and food hygiene are followed in accordance with HACCAP standard

Ensure proper handling and storage of all food items

Hands-on-experience in Indian cuisine is preferred

Ensuring that food is cooked as per the recipes for consistency to uphold the quality standards of the department

Serve food on time to meet the quality objective of the department

Ensure that the working area is constantly clean by applying clean as you go principles

Perform other tasks assigned by the department supervisor or manager.

Requirements:

Certificate in food production from a reputable institution

2 years work experience in a busy catering establishment

Management of food safety based on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control points (HACCP)

Knowledge of receipts in food production

Be a self-starter

Be a team player

Have a good communicator

Excellent leadership, interpersonal skills
