Aga Khan University Hospital Pharmaceutical Technologist - Main Pharmacy Jobs in Kenya

Responsibilities

Receive, verify prescriptions, and dispense drugs in a timely manner within approved standards.

Contact physicians immediately for inaccuracies or illegibility in prescriptions, document errors, and communicate them to nursing/pharmacy staff.

Verify expiry dates of drugs prior to dispensing.

Ensure labels contain correct patient details, drug, quantity, and directions.

Compound extemporaneous preparations and mix IV medications as per procedures.

Counsel patients on drug administration and device use.

Process drug credits and update system records promptly.

Deliver drug discharges to patients in wards where applicable.

Communicate out-of-stock/non-stock items to prescribers and nurses, provide alternatives, or arrange orders.

Comply with environmental health and safety regulations in handling, storage, and dispensation.

Record, monitor, and update expiry lists of medications.

Conduct monthly nursing floor inspections for ward stock and patient medications.

Document interventions, medication errors, near misses, adverse events, queries, and complaints.

Perform random medication checks daily and monitor variances.

Compile daily satellite reports and conduct regular stock-takes.

Maintain and update personal drug knowledge database for accurate pharmaceutical care.

Requirements

Diploma

in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.

Valid practicing license from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

At least 1 year of experience in a busy facility, preferably a hospital.

Computer literacy.

Strong communication skills with medical professionals.

Team player with excellent customer service and empathy for patients of all ages.

Good interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.

Commitment to continuous medical education and keeping up with pharmaceutical developments.
