Introduction

Aga Khan University is a private, not for profit, international University established in 1983, with 11 teaching sites in eight countries. Since 2001, AKU has offered academic programmes in nursing, medicine and education for East Africa.

Responsibilities

  • The appointee will have an independent consultant status as a medical oncologist, and shall undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and clinical activities.

    Qualifications

  • The appointee must have completed a structured postgraduate training program in Medical Oncology from a reputable institution and possess exit board certification such FCPS, American Boards, CCST (UK) or equivalent in the specialty of Medical Oncology.
  • The qualification should also meet the registration criteria with Kenya Medical Practitioners’ & Dentists Board as a specialist.
  • Candidates should have independent clinical experience as medical oncologist of at least 2 years post exit qualification.
  • Candidate should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Applicants with scholarly contributions to research, teaching and publications shall be preferred.

    Aga Khan University Hospital Nairobi Senior Manager Opportunities

    Responsibilities

  • Manage annual global academic planning/budget process with all academic entities, both in place and planned;
  • Manage the development of new academic programs to ensure completeness and compliance with AKU, national and regional requirements;
  • Support and oversee the development of annual budget and activity plans from each other academic department/school, and for the Provost's office, which support the delivery of the Academic
  • Strategy and its implementation Plans.
  • Manage Dean’s Council meeting agenda, including tracking of key issues and concept notes, follow-up and/or resolution of issues arising; agenda management;
  • Manage and synthesis of Provost’s Report to the Board of Trustees.
  • In conjunction with Board Secretariat, manage agenda and review of papers for the Provost and other academic and student affairs committee of the Board;
  • Manage high-level searches, including Deans, Directors and other high level or new academic staff reporting to the Provost;
  • Advise the Provost on policy and government relations issues, stakeholder relations, and strategic issues; pertinent to Africa, South and Central Asia;
  • Management of Provost’s papers and correspondence;
  • Preparation of briefings, speeches and talking points;
  • Overall
    management of Provost’s schedule, including all supporting matters.
  • Review of current processes, policies, systems with the goal of improving the workings of the Provost’s Office.
  • Serve as advisor to Provost on key issues including Policy, strategies, stakeholder management etc.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across AKU campuses for better integration of academic programs and services.

    Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from a reputable institution, PhD in the humanities or social sciences preferred, ideally with a focus on one of AKU’s regions;
  • Post-doctoral research and teaching experience in higher education;
  • At least 5 years’ management experience in higher education and/or non-profit sector; international experience and experience in Africa is essential;
  • Possess a single-minded pursuit of excellence in all activities and be passionate about education;
  • Ability to work effectively will all constituencies and stakeholders of the university;
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality;
  • Excellent management and organizational skills;
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from around the world;
  • Multi-lingual, with the highest level of fluency in English and excellent command of one other language spoken in East Africa (French, Swahili, etc.)
  • Experience with writing grant proposals, Board papers, and other complex documents.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information; ability to present ideas concisely and clearly;
  • Strong grasp of trends, complex regulatory environment in AKU’s regions and international trends in higher education;
  • Demonstrates sound judgment in dealing with challenging and sensitive and complex situations;
  • Strong time management skills and able to work well under tight deadlines, heavy workloads and with a high degree of individual responsibility.
  • Willingness to travel to all AKU University and AKDN locations (East Africa, South Asia, UK, Europe and Canada).
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
