Job Summary

  • Ensure safe, compliant, and competent management of administration of investigational products (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other therapies) for participants on research trials.

    Responsibilities

  • Comply with institutional and CRU policies, SOPs, and confidentiality.

  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings and unit activities, including preparing reports.

  • Engage in continuing education, training, and skill development.

  • Practice ICH‑GCP and good documentation practices.

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments before, during, and after treatment; monitor for adverse events.

  • Administer investigational medicinal products (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous/port‑a‑cath) per study protocols.

  • Perform routine technical procedures (vital signs, IV cannulation, ECG, drug administration).

  • Provide laboratory support services including phlebotomy and specimen collection.

  • Educate patients on treatments and side effects.

  • Obtain informed consent when necessary.

  • Follow infection control guidelines for central venous lines and port‑a‑cath care.

  • Provide psychological and emotional support; refer to counsellors when appropriate.

  • Communicate adverse reactions promptly and participate in management.

  • Plan and organize daily clinical and research study activities with the study team.

  • Coordinate patient visit schedules and treatment bookings.

  • Document and maintain accurate source records and EHR entries.

  • Maintain infusion logs, temperature monitoring logs, and crash cart checklists.

  • Conduct monthly crash cart checks and monitor infusion reactions.

  • Participate in data collection and monitoring of unit quality indicators.

  • Assist in nursing education, QI projects, audits, and skill checks.

  • Ensure efficient use of resources and accurate billing.

  • Maintain compliance with health and safety guidelines.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
    in Nursing (preferred); Diploma considered with significant clinical experience.

  • Valid and active Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) license.

  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

  • Certification in Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS).

    Relevant Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ nursing experience in hospital or related setting.

  • Oncology/chemotherapy administration experience.

  • Strong knowledge of nursing practice, critical thinking, and problem‑solving.

  • Experience operating medical equipment (infusion pump, ECG machine).

  • Versatility to work in clinical care, patient services, lab/bio‑specimen processing, and data management.

  • Proficiency in computers and office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
