Aga Khan University Hospital Clinical Instructor, School of Nursing and Midwifery Jobs in Kenya ;The Clinical Instructor is responsible for incorporating evidence‑based practice into teaching activities at SONAM. The role involves teaching in clinical and laboratory settings (CIME) as well as classroom teaching. The Instructor assists faculty in creating high‑quality clinical experiences for students, serving as a liaison between faculty, clinical sites, and the Center for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME).

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate skills lab (CIME) nursing clinical activities and ensure equitable lab and simulation usage.

  • Work with course leads to meet lab requirements and ensure equipment and supplies are available.

  • Prepare CIME practice modules, skills check forms, and software use.

  • Support skills practice sessions and assessments (e.g., OSCE).

  • Coordinate with CIME team to orient and facilitate students in clinical skill practice.

  • Facilitate clinical placements in conjunction with course leads.

  • Organize orientation of students to new clinical sites.

  • Ensure correspondence with clinical sites is completed each semester and permissions obtained.

  • Seek new placement sites as necessary with SONAM administrators.

  • Organize clinical placement scheduling, attendance, and on‑site assessments; troubleshoot issues.

  • Ensure completion of required student documentation.

  • Participate in regulator inspections, semester evaluations, and provide recommendations.

  • Utilize innovative and engaging strategies in teaching and learning.

  • Upload course outlines, lesson plans, and teaching materials on Moodle in a timely manner.

  • Plan and implement teaching/learning sessions in class and clinical areas.

  • Prepare lesson plans and maintain records to monitor student progress and attendance.

  • Assist with supervision of undergraduate students.

  • Participate in development, administration, and marking of
    exams and assessments.

  • Engage in research in areas of interest in clinical practice and teaching/learning.

  • Participate in professional scientific conferences.

  • Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals.

  • Identify relevant areas of clinical practice and develop periodic objectives.

  • Engage in clinical practice using identified objectives.

  • Maintain current nursing practice license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Pursue higher academic qualifications as required by the Commission of University Education (CUE).

  • Develop and maintain personal faculty portfolio.

  • Identify and attend continuous development programs.

  • Participate in faculty and departmental seminars/workshops to build capacity, share outcomes, and foster collaboration.

    Relevant Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing/Midwifery and a Master’s degree from a recognized university.

  • Registered for a PhD or equivalent doctoral program.

  • Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya with current licensure.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical practice experience.

  • University teaching experience is an added advantage.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and counselling skills.
