Aga Khan University Hospital Associate, Grants Accountant, AKU Finance Jobs in Kenya
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Work closely with the Grants Manager and program staff to ensure transactions are properly recorded and agree with grant/contract agreements.
Ensure sub‑recipients/subcontracts costs are correctly captured.
Prepare internal grants reports to be shared with Principal Investigators.
Prepare donor reports as per specifications, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
Prepare invoices and requests for payments to funding agencies and reconcile grant expenses to funder reports.
Ensure donor compliance requirements are met.
Monitor sub‑recipients, review budgets and reimbursement requests, and ensure adherence to policies and sound business practices.
Work with Grants Manager and Principal Investigators to ensure project activities are allocated accurate costs and reflected in project budgets.
Ensure budgets are prepared in line with AKU policies and granting agencies’ terms and conditions.
Exercise judgment to ensure grant management decisions comply with rules, legislation, and policies.
Build effective communication strategies with stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate information exchange.
Facilitate internal and external grant financial audits.
Provide support documentation and explanations required by auditors.
Review requisitions raised by departments to ensure spending is within approved budgets.
Ensure requisitions are adequately supported and approved by department heads.
Ensure requisitions are
timely and correctly charged.
Pass journal entries in the ledger related to grants.
Review trial balances of grants and prepare reports accordingly.
Maintain efficient electronic and paper filing systems for financial records and submit required documents to donors.
Perform any other tasks assigned by management.
Relevant Experience & Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
CPAK/ACCA qualifications.
2–3 years of professional experience in finance and accounting.
Prior experience in a granting agency is an added advantage.
Excellent command of MS Excel and MS PowerPoint is an added advantage.
