Job Title:
  • Country Director - Kenya
    Responsible To:
  • Director General
    Location:
  • Kenya (with regular overseas travel)
    Type:
  • 12 months, renewable contract
    Salary:
  • Competitive

We study for legal qualifications and equip ourselves with practical legal skills. About 60 of us are studying for law degrees in prison with the University of London, following in Nelson Mandela’s footsteps and another 150
have received basic training in criminal law—all work to provide paralegal support to their communities.

In the short term we work to bring justice to some of the most marginalised people in society.

    Our long term hope is
that we move to positions where we are creating and implementing the law, bringing with us empathy and understanding from our personal experience.

So far more than 3000 of those who’ve received legal support from us
have been released from prison and reunited with their families.

We’ll be shaping national laws as we go—our
students have been involved in several Supreme Court cases—including one which resulted in the abolition of the mandatory death sentence in Uganda and we are taking steps to establish a public interest litigation practice.

Whilst we use the law to serve the poor, despite the personal challenges we face, our own humanity has the chance
    to flourish.

Our work allows each of us, even our brothers and sisters on death row, to go to bed at night knowing that that day counted for something.
