African Parks Law Enforcement Mentor Jobs in South Sudan; African Parks is seeking a full-time Law Enforcement Mentor for Boma National Park. The role focuses on providing operational and tactical readiness for each Park Law Enforcement Unit in accordance with APN training standards and SOPs. This is an opportunity to work with a unique conservation organization dedicated to protecting Africa’s wildlife and wild places.

Main Roles & Responsibilities

Operational Guidance & Leadership

  • Provide operational guidance and leadership support to the park’s Law Enforcement Team.

  • Implement best practices in safety, equipment, training, tactics, and conduct of operations.

  • Plan and coordinate all levels of LE training, including mentoring park wardens and instructors.

  • Conduct inspections and skills assessments of LE personnel.

  • Assess equipment requirements and support procurement.

  • Plan and conduct regular exercises to ensure readiness.

    Personnel & Resource Management
  • Design rotation schedules responsive to operational needs.

  • Identify resource needs (rations, housing, medical, transport).

  • Ensure armoury and operations control room security.

    Coordination & Intelligence
  • Foster coordination with park intelligence units for “intelligence-led operations.”

  • Liaise with host country law enforcement units.

  • Strengthen relationships with community engagement teams.

    Security & Risk Management
  • Lead production and revision of park security and evacuation plans.

  • Conduct security risk assessments.

  • Support tactical air operations and QRF/reconnaissance missions.

  • Ensure firearms and ammunition maintenance and readiness.

    Operational Support
  • Advise LE Warden in operations and joint missions.

  • Support implementation of CONOPs, LEO, and annual budget.

  • Conduct after-action debriefings and prepare incident reports.

  • Act in managerial roles when necessary to ensure continuity.

    Success Indicators (First 3 Months)
  • Awareness and acceptance of focused Law Enforcement presence among communities.

  • Safe, efficient, and effective operations within AP SOPs.

  • Increased capacity of LE teams to operate in hostile environments with zero casualties.

  • Improved coordination with host-country rangers and park intelligence units.

  • Necessary equipment in place for safe operations.

  • Training implemented to dominate terrain.

  • Poaching and criminal presence minimized significantly.

    Education & Experience
  • Military or Law Enforcement background (middle-ranking officer).

  • Significant Africa experience, ideally in hostile environments.

  • Leadership experience with proven team-building ability.

  • Multidisciplinary exposure.

    Skills

  • Conservation understanding/experience.

  • Fluency in English.

  • Resourceful, resilient, and reliable.

  • Ability to work autonomously in low-resourced environments.

  • Strong teamwork and adaptability.

  • Goal-oriented, self-motivated, and flexible.

  • Willingness to live in remote locations.

  • Commitment to African Parks values.
