African Institute for Development Policy Communications and Policy Engagement (CPE) Officer Jobs in Kenya;We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Communications and Policy Engagement (CPE) Officer to support the design and implementation of AFIDEP’s policy engagement, branding and communications strategies. The postholder will strengthen AFIDEP’s visibility, profile and influence as a leading regional research and policy institute, while promoting effective communication and uptake of research evidence to inform development policy and practice across Africa.

Responsibilities

Content & Publications

  • Manage development of institutional publications (annual report, newsletters, African Development Perspectives).

  • Write and edit content for website and social media platforms.

  • Support translation of evidence into policy briefs, infographics, blogs, media releases, Op‑Eds, explainer videos and podcasts.

    Research & Policy Communications

  • Develop communications materials that translate AFIDEP’s research and policy positions.

  • Support documentation of policy dialogues, consultations and engagements.

  • Contribute communications inputs to institutional, programme and donor reporting.

    Media & Public Engagement

  • Establish and sustain links with journalists and media houses.

  • Contribute to building communications capacity of AFIDEP staff, researchers, policymakers and journalists.

    Digital & Social Media

  • Manage AFIDEP’s social media platforms (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube).

  • Ensure regular, high‑quality content sharing and explore emerging digital tools.

  • Contribute to website management and content development.

    Knowledge Resources & Events

  • Support development and management of AFIDEP’s library and information resources.

  • Plan, coordinate and deliver successful events, meetings and conferences.

    Requirements

    Education

  • Master’s degree in Communications, Media, International Relations or related field.

    Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in science and development communications.

  • Demonstrable writing and technical editing skills for policy publications.

  • Experience translating research for non‑scientific audiences.

  • Knowledge of African context and decision‑making in health, population, education, environment and governance.

  • Familiarity with global development policy debates.

    Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent writing and content development skills.

  • Strong networking and relationship‑building abilities.

  • Skilled communicator with credibility across diverse audiences.
