Background:

The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is a not for profit, networking alliance and service organization that brings together field epidemiology training programs (FETPs) across Africa working side by side with Ministries of Health, regional and international partners. AFENET works to strengthen epidemiology and disease surveillance capabilities of African countries that are critical to meeting the requirements of the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) strategy and the International Health Regulations (IHR). AFENET is seeking to recruit highly qualified & experienced persons to serve and fill the following vacancies: - **

Basic role and Function

Working closely with Project Leads, Country Resident Advisors and Programs team; take primary role in the writing of proposals and acquisition of funding and monitoring of Grant funds’ usage.

Responsibilities:

· Lead and manage the AFENET Grants & Business Development function
· Develop and implement the AFENET Business Development / Grant Acquisition Strategy in alignment with the AFENET mandate
· Provide strategic direction for business development to pursue non-traditional funding sources and identifying emerging or untapped high potential donors RFAs
· Build cross functional team within AFENET Network for proposals development.
  • Assume a lead role in all aspects of grant project development, including needs assessment, concept paper design, and proposal preparation.
    · In collaboration with the Program Director and Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, conduct needs assessments in current and projected project areas to ensure that Grants’ programming is justifiable and well designed.
    · Work alongside Programs & Finance staff during the project/Grant design process to develop appropriate project budgets.
    · In collaboration with M & E Officer assist in the monitoring and evaluation of projects/grant to inform future programming
    · Manage funding trends and opportunities and prepare briefs to be shared on a regular basis with the Senior Management Team and key

    Counterparts
    within the Partnerships.

    · Maintain a catalogue of Grants concept notes and proposals that can be presented to potential donors for funding.
    · In collaboration with Programs and Finance Units ensure compliance with implementation and financial standards and policies of both the donors Grants/project requirements and contractual obligations
    · Work with private sector companies, professional organizations and Universities to contribute to improvement of Grants Sector effectiveness, efficiency and impact by sharing/developing/improving templates, tools and capacity building resources for project management.
    · Design and implement a relevant approach for improving program/project management practices that best fit the context, strengths, gaps, and existing Grants opportunity structures.

    Academic Requirements:
    · Masters degree in Economics, Business or Public Administration, Organizational
    Development, International Development, Resource Development or Public Health and Human Sciences or any related field.
    · Understanding of at least one of sustainable development, Health, humanitarian
    Emergency affairs (HEA) and advocacy.
  • Minimum of 3 years working experiences in the developmental setting (preferably NGO).
    · Experience of writing proposals to institutional donors.
    · Knowledge of the Public Health & Humanitarian related areas, international NGOs and funding trends.
    · Excellent analysis, verbal and written skills for writing Public Health and Epidemic Handling concept papers and Grant funding papers.
