Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Country Representation

  • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for AFAP Kenya.

  • Develop and implement country strategies aligned with AFAP’s continental objectives.

  • Identify emerging opportunities, risks, and market trends.

  • Represent AFAP at national, regional, and international forums.

  • Strengthen AFAP’s visibility and reputation in Kenya’s agricultural sector.

    Business Development and Resource Mobilisation

  • Lead resource mobilisation and build sustainable funding pipelines.

  • Maintain relationships with donors, foundations, government institutions, and private sector partners.

  • Pursue new project opportunities across agriculture, agribusiness, food systems, climate resilience, and rural development.

  • Lead proposal development including concept notes, technical proposals, budgets, and negotiations.

  • Position AFAP as a preferred implementing and technical partner in Kenya and East Africa.

    Programme Leadership and Delivery

  • Oversee country office finances, administration, and operations.

  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and performance targets.

  • Ensure compliance with AFAP policies, donor regulations, and statutory requirements.

  • Strengthen internal
    controls and support audits.

  • Ensure efficient utilisation of resources.

    Partnership Development and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with government, development partners, farmer organisations, agribusinesses, and financial institutions.

  • Facilitate partnerships that expand programme impact.

  • Support policy dialogue and advocacy initiatives.

    Team Leadership and Organisational Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing country team.

  • Foster accountability, collaboration, innovation, and learning.

  • Ensure staffing, succession planning, and capacity development.

  • Promote organisational values and positive work culture.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in relevant field (Bachelor’s with significant experience considered).

  • Minimum 10 years programme management/agribusiness/international development experience.

  • At least 5 years senior leadership experience.

  • Proven fundraising and resource mobilisation track record.

  • Strong financial and operational management expertise.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and partnership‑building skills.

  • Strong communication, presentation, and report‑writing skills.

  • High levels of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
