Key Responsibilities

Program Strategy and Development

  • Scout and identify new agricultural technologies and draft concept notes.

  • Provide technical leadership in Ag Biotech product development, regulatory compliance, biosafety, and stewardship.

  • Ensure efficient monitoring and implementation of AATF interventions and projects.

  • Provide technical backstopping to staff and partners.

    Commercialization & Scaling

  • Lead design and execution of AATF commercialization strategy.

  • Provide strategic oversight for transitioning technologies from R&D to market deployment.

  • Drive scaling of commercially sustainable models across African countries.

  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships with seed companies, private sector, governments, and development partners.

    Partnership & Stakeholder Management

  • Develop and maintain liaison with partners and stakeholders.

  • Strengthen coordination across multidisciplinary teams and partnerships.

  • Promote a high‑performance culture focused on results and accountability.

    Portfolio & Performance Management

  • Advise Executive Director on new opportunities and represent him/her in technical forums.

  • Support project design, development, and implementation.

  • Provide technical backstopping to the Board of Trustees through reports and guidance.

    Leadership & Organizational Contribution

  • Provide overall leadership and technical supervision in implementing and reviewing AATF’s project portfolio.

  • Represent AATF in high‑level engagements with governments, donors, and partners.

    Resource Mobilization

  • Lead resource mobilization strategies to support development, scale‑up, and commercialization of agricultural technologies.

  • Cultivate and steward high‑value funding partners.

  • Integrate commercialization and sustainability pathways into funding models.

    Qualifications

  • PhD in Agricultural Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Biotechnology, or related discipline.

  • Strong understanding of markets, value chains, adoption drivers, and economic viability.

  • Direct focus on moving research to market, scaling technologies, and managing product portfolios.

  • Expertise in commercialization strategy, partnerships, and business model development.

    Experience and Skills

    Essential

  • Minimum 10 years senior leadership in agricultural technology development and commercialization.

  • Proven executive leadership with track record in building high‑performing teams.

  • Ability to set and execute organizational and programmatic strategy.

  • Deep expertise in program governance, risk management, and accountability.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership‑building capability.

  • Recognized authority in agricultural technology with product development/deployment experience.

  • Exceptional executive communication and representation skills.

  • Comprehensive understanding of agricultural technologies, regulatory, and biosafety considerations.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

    Desirable

  • Results/detail‑orientation with urgency in multicultural environments.

  • Publications in technical journals or presentations at agricultural events.

  • Fluency in French; working knowledge of Portuguese an advantage.

  • Ability to suggest alternative technical solutions to meet client requirements.
