Africa Educational Trust Head Teacher for a Girl’s Secondary Education Learning Centre Jobs in Kenya

Africa Educational Trust intends to open a learning centre in Laikipia North for girls who have left school after completing their primary schooling but are now ambitious to complete their Secondary Education and sit the National School Leaving Examination (KCSE).

The centre will be in Kimanjo Town for approximately 50 girls who will join this year and to take their KCSE in November 2020.

Thus, AET is seeking to employ an experienced teacher who will take over the leadership of this centre for the two and a half years.

The suitable candidate should be someone who is committed to advancing education among girls in this local community.

Terms of Reference:

  • Be the Academic and Pastoral lead for the centre.
  • Line manage the teachers and support staff.
    Teach at least two subjects and carry a half time table teaching load.
  • Manage the timetable and oversee as well as monitor the teaching of the staff.
  • Ensure appropriate support, discipline and security among the staff and students with aim of creating an enabling atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of the accelerated schemes of work and ensure the girls are prepared for their examinations in 2020.
  • Provide AET with regular reports on the progress of the school, analysing and addressing problems as they arise.
  • Report to the AET Program manager for the project.

    Person Specification
  • Note that candidates are
    expected to have the majority but not all of these skills and experience.
  • Also note that candidates must have the right to work in Kenya.

    The successful candidate should:

  • Be a professionally qualified secondary level teacher who has taught for a minimum of three years.
  • Be qualified to teach at least two subjects at secondary level
  • Have proven leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work within a team.
  • Proven managerial and administrative experience will be a major advantage
  • Preference will be given to a female Maa speaker able to empathise with girls from Laikipia North.
  • Have good IT and report writing skills
    Essential
  • Willing to live and ability to work in a hardship area (DolDol-Laikipia North).
  • Qualified teacher registered with the Teacher Service Commission (TSC).
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in education.
