Responsibilities:

Duties are performed in accordance with standards of professional practice as outlined by the Kenya Psychological Association (KPsyA) code of ethics and the Mental Health (Amendment) Bill (Senate Bill No. 32 of 2018)

  • Provide individual, group and family therapy sessions for students

  • Conduct psychological assessments and interpret results for students

  • Lead crisis intervention efforts and provide insight into the development of functional assessments and behaviour intervention plans

  • Integrate psychological services into the classroom environment as appropriate through the appropriate lessons and teaching platforms

  • Provide assistance to staff in the design and implementation of appropriate interventions and accommodations for students

  • Contribute to program development that furthers the integration of social, coping, and problem solving in the classroom

  • Provide support services to parents/guardians as needed

  • Coordinate and/or collaborate with a range of individuals/agencies to promote and provide comprehensive services to students and families

  • Provide and/or assist in professional and personal development for staff, parents, and/or community

  • Participate in professional growth activities on a yearly basis including KPsyA recertification, workshops, in-service training, professional reading materials, and/or other available offerings at the Association of School Counsellors (ASC), Child Protection Network of Kenya (CPAN Kenya), among others

  • Proficiently use technology to communicate, compile reports, and collect data

  • Participate in program activities and meetings as appropriate

  • Arrange for internal and external motivational activities beneficial to leaners in all grades

  • Work with all departments to drive the school pastoral care team and
    provide support where needed

  • Participate in compiling cost effective budgets for the department

  • Proficiently use technology to communicate, compile reports, and collect data

  • Participate in program activities and meetings as appropriate

  • Arrange for internal and external motivational activities beneficial to leaners in all grades

  • Work with all departments to drive the school pastoral care team and provide support where needed

  • Participate in compiling cost effective budgets for the department

  • Provide support to exam writing groups in preparation for the exams and for the exit of the school after exams

  • Provide educational campaigns about mental health and wellness to staff, learners and the parent community.

    Education and Professional Certification:

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in the relevant field of psychology

  • Member of the Kenya Psychological Association (KPsyA) or an accredited professional body

    Essential experience:

  • A Minimum of 5 years working experience in an academic, community or private setting with children and adolescents
